I don't know that it's 100% that he'd demand an opt out, but that's something I'd been wondering about. You're very correct to point out that possibility. That doesn't remove the extra security if the extra year, but the odds of Deron not getting a max deal that fifth year from someone are extremely slim.
Also, Kidd signing with a team coached by Avery Johnson would shock me more than anything I've seen in basketball in a long, long time.
