If one is the kind of person to believe in conspiracies, that's actually not at all a bad theory.
Myself, I think a lot more is made of Lakers trades than they are worth. They have, and have had, a big payroll, a lot of attractive trade assets, a desire to win, and a willingness to take on even more salary. That's exactly the kind of team that is going to be a player when big names come up for trade.
