Mark Cuban never said that about Howard. He explicitly said
"we were disappointed we didn’t get Dwight". How much clearer does he need to get?
What Cuban did say is that
"we’re in a better spot than we were at if we got just the one max-out deal". Presumably, that one max deal refers to guys like Andrew Iguodala and Josh Smith. A lot of people assumed the Mavs will blow their cap room on one of the other "max" guys as a fall back plan to Dwight.
