First the downgrade from Jonas to Adams isn't as steep as you might think. Adams arguably fits the modern NBA better as the better screen man and perimeter defender (although Jonas is obviously the more skilled offensive player).

Best players available at 10 in the previous NBA drafts:

2020: Devin Vassell, Tyrese Haliburton, Cole Anthony
2019: Cam Reddish, Tyler Herro, Sekou Doumbouya
2018: Mikal Bridges, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Miles Bridges, Michael Porter Jr.

Best players available at 17 in the previous NBA drafts:

2020: Tyrese Maxey, Previous Achiuwa, Saddiq Bey
2019: Matisse Thybulle, Brandon Clarke
2018: Donte DiVincenzo, Lonnie Walker, Kevin Huerter

You catch my drift. There's a huge difference between drafting at 10 and drafting at 17. Especially in a top heavy draft like this year's.
I'm ok with the idea they made a good trade but I don't think it was a fleecing or anything. I don't really care tbh. I love Steven Adams and would say that it's not even arguable that Adams is a good defender...even holding his own on the perimeter in switches. Dudes a tough, smart mf ball player. I'd love to have him on the team.
