The only thing keeping baseball competitive in recruiting american-born athletes is the bonus structure. Plain and simple. Yankees knock on the door of some 19 year old kid and offer millions up front, not many will turn that down. Plus, baseball players tend to have the longest careers with the least amount of wear and tear on the body.
Thing to remember is that in football, there are no guarantees.
