Malachi Mav is on a distinguished road
Default KG got an offer from twolves

Why would Garnett take their first offer?

For those that remember, before his last MONSTER contract, he turned down their initial offer of around $17 mil per. That ended up earning him an extra $25 mil over the life of the contract.

It doesn't make him a bad guy. The first rule of negotiation is NEVER accept the first offer.

Same holds true here.

If he doesn't sign the extension, the ONLY down side I see is the POTENTIAL for "unrest" in the team - maybe some "tension" in the locker room and front office. Maybe that tension is over-rated, maybe it's not. Different teams - comprised of different individuals - handle it to varying degrees. Some teams THRIVE on it - some are destroyed by it - and others experience everything in between.

So, I see him waiting it out - enjoying the attention from the press and people like us. It gives him some pub in a year dominated by LeBron's super-hyped rookie campaign and Kobe's legal woes. Then, he gets courted by other teams - for maybe the first and only time of his career. One quote in the news said that KG, "had never seen the home locker room in another arena."

Then, next year he talks to all the other teams that can hack out cap room for a max contract offer. He appears open to changing teams, says all the right things, takes all the trips where he can be courted like a rock star.

THEN, when it's all said and done, he re-signs with the T-Wolves because they are the ONLY ones that can offer him more than the max set by the current CBA (which they have already offered him - they're not going to LOWER their offer). He signs it before a dozen cameras, smiling that huge smile, signing autographs for the local Boy Scout troop - telling everyone that this is where he wanted to be the whole time.

Again, it doesn't make him a bad person - just human.

Now, having said all THAT - he'll probably sign the extension next week...................
