Default RE: Defensive rankings

82games.com is the best for evaluating on-court vs. off-court numbers for individual players.

If you want numbers for individual games, check out the game flows at popcornmachine.net. There are errors in the calculations at this sight, I believe because of the way they treat substitutions that happen when teams are shooting free throws, but their numbers are close enough to give a general idea of what a player's on-court +/- is for a particular game.

As for Damp, on balance he hasn't done as well in the +/- as some people have been giving him credit for (there's room for improvement on both ends of the court), though his numbers have been improving as the season has gone on, and there have definitely been games where he's been a clear and necessary positive for the Mavs. Interestingly enough, there's quite a large spread in terms of which players he appears to work best with. His best numbers come when paired with Harris, Fin, Josh, and Dirk. He and Hendu, and he and JT, have been curiously ineffective when they share the court. The pairing with Terry is quite strange when you consider that Terry has been the team's second most effective back-court player overall behind Fin according to the +/-. Offense seems to be the main culprit in the JT/Damp pairing. Nothing seems to have worked out very well when Hendu and Damp have shared the court. Of course, if JT's been paired up with Damp with Hendu in at the same time very often, that could go a long way toward explaining some of the numbers.
