AJ's title of 'assistant coach' doesn't describe his role accurately. What he really is is "future head coach in training". Part of his training is working as an assistant coach to Nellie but that should not be all of it.
What Nellie is doing for AJ/with AJ is typical mentor-apprentice behavior in the business world... for some reason, it's not as common in sports.
