You will never get a better version of LOTR than what Peter Jackson provided. It's impossible to be completely faithful to the books. They are simply too long with too much going on.
Be thankful with what you got. It was truly amazing. Honestly, I believe it's 'popular' to nitpick LoTR for what it does not provide. It's just the cool thing for 'geeks' to do.
