1) Dallas Mavericks - The frightening depth of this year's squad keeps us afloat through an injury plagued beginning of the season, and then helps to fuel a truly remarkable 32-5 year end run...

2) San Antonio Spurs - As always, injuries will take a toll on San Antonio over the course of the season, but this year old warhorses Fin and Nick will do much to help SA weather the storm.

3) Phoenix Suns - The great play of reigning MVP Nash and bizarre continued development of PG-SF-C Boris Diaw Rifford keep the Suns winning at an impressive clip early in the season, and then a mildly hobbled Amare returns, Z-Bo-like, as a semi-successful returned microfracture victim, thus helping DanToni and company finish as a strong #3 seed.

4) Denver Nuggets - Camby's incredible early season play has gotten a heckuva lot of press thus far in the young 05-06 season, but it looks to me like the real story with these Nugs is that Karl's offensive system appears to have really taken hold and blossomed with this team, as evidenced by Andre Miller's reemergence as an assist machine, and they only look to get better as the season progresses.

5) LA Clippers - Nothing is going to stop this year's hapless but hungry Clipps from getting their seat at the '06 playoff dinner table (at least short of Elton Brand's hamstring snapping).

6) Memphis - This is Cleveland-era Mike Fratello redux. The Grizz are going to finish strong in a weakened Western conference; scraping into the playoffs by winning games with the discipine and tough play of a gang of solid, no-name vets, but they are destined to get run out of the first round on a rail.

7) Houston Rockets - The combination of Rik Smits-reborn and TMac's aching back is always good for a first round playoff appearance (and prompt exit)...

8) Minnesota Timberwolves - The surprising emergence of Dwayne Jones and Marko Jaric as the complimentary scorers that KG has always pined for will be just enough to allow the Big (first round) Ticket to triumphantly reclaim his old, familiar #8 seed spot in the playoffs.
