So a DVDR is only a replacement for a VCR recorder, right? It cannot time-shift like TiVO can. I haven't purchased TiVo becuase I cannot stand the thought of paying a subscription for a channel guide for goodness sakes. If I could have the TiVo functions, pause live TV for example I would just as soon do it with a one-time purchased device.

Anyhope there or do I have to get a channel guide and pay ransoms?
