I think you'd have to make sure the salaries match, but otherwise:

- GS would have 4 guys on the floor who can shoot the 3, so they wouldn't mind that;
- I doubt Garnett, at this stage in his career, would want to go to a non-contender like BOS with all its young and inexperienced players. The older you get, the more winning a championship becomes important to you.
- Anyway, if I were BOS and I wanted to get Garnett, I'd just try a straight trade with MIN:

Minnesota Trade Breakdown

Outgoing
Kevin Garnett
6-11 PF from Farragut Academy (HS)
21.7 ppg, 12.0 rpg, 4.4 apg in 39.2 minutes

Incoming
Al Jefferson
6-10 PF from Prentiss (HS)
8.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 0.6 apg in 18.6 minutes

Dan Dickau
6-0 PG from Gonzaga
3.3 ppg, 0.8 rpg, 2.1 apg in 12.5 minutes

Paul Pierce
6-6 SG from Kansas
26.4 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 4.5 apg in 39.3 minutes
Change in team outlook: +16.3 ppg, +1.2 rpg, and +2.8 apg.

Boston Trade Breakdown

Outgoing
Al Jefferson
6-10 PF from Prentiss (HS)
8.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 0.6 apg in 18.6 minutes

Dan Dickau
6-0 PG from Gonzaga
3.3 ppg, 0.8 rpg, 2.1 apg in 12.5 minutes

Paul Pierce
6-6 SG from Kansas
26.4 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 4.5 apg in 39.3 minutes

Incoming
Kevin Garnett
6-11 PF from Farragut Academy (HS)
21.7 ppg, 12.0 rpg, 4.4 apg in 39.2 minutes
Change in team outlook: -16.3 ppg, -1.2 rpg, and -2.8 apg.

Successful Scenario
Due to Minnesota and Boston being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Minnesota and Boston had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement

MIN gets a perimeter shooter (among other things) in Pierce to replace Sczerbiak, plus a backup PG and a nice young PF/C prospect.

BOS gets Garnett, arguably the best all-around player in the league.
