Dallas Cowboys safety Keith Davis, 27, was recovering at Baylor Medical Center Dallas Sunday after he was shot twice while driving along Interstate 635 at about 5 a.m. Sunday.

Police said Mr. Davis was driving westbound on the highway near the North Dallas Tollway when a dark-colored vehicle with tinted windows pulled alongside his Chevrolet Impala and someone shot at him several times.

Dallas police are investigating motive and suspects.

Police said Mr. Davis is in stable condition and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Cowboys spokesman Rich Dalrymple said the team was aware of the incident, but would not comment.

The Cowboys signed Davis as a free agent in 2002 after a standout career at Sam Houston State. He played on special teams his first season.

He re-signed with the Cowboys on March 7, 2003, but was released July 26 after suffering a gunshot wound as a bystander in an altercation. He did not play in the NFL in 2003.

Davis played mostly on special teams in 2004. He started 15 games at safety last season, recording 66 tackles.

Saw that headline, and thought something sounded very familiar.

If I were a teammate of his, I wouldn't be accepting any rides home.

Anybody think Parcells keeps him around?
