I hear that alot about Palin - "she got the base fired up".

That's great, and it made for some riveting TV - but what else was the "base" going to do, excited or not?

I understand the core Republicans were lukewarm about McCain - but they certainly weren't lukewarm about Obama. I wonder how many moderate votes were lost for the sake of exciting a base that, at the very least, was already pretty adamant about Obama NOT being president.
