yes, murphy had weaknesses.
he had a whole in his swing...had some difficulty going the opposite way later in his career and this (along with knee problems) led to the end of his career.
murphy struck out too much. he did, however, have a respectable OBP for a cleanup hitter in the 80's. you have to remember that in the 80's, cleanup hitters typically were not the type of hitters (hitting for the type of average) that they are now.
