You're right that the Mavs need to be prepared for any scenario, but I think it's incredibly unlikely that Milwaukee trades him before the season is over. They're still arguably the best team in the east, and they still have a legitimate shot at the title this year. As of right now, all signs indicate he is far more likely to sign the supermax than to demand out. And even if he doesn't extend, you still have the whole season to make a title run and convince him to stay. The only way they trade him is if he demands it, or if he flat out tells them that he will not re-sign. Their season would have to be an unmitigated disaster for them to trade Giannis before the deadline. You don't trade a generational superstar unless you know 100% that you can't keep him.
