It's completely irrelevant whether it's wise in general to sit your star for that long. It worked brilliantly today. It's not as though Carlisle is establishing some trend of sitting Dirk for 10 minutes in every second quarter--it just happened to be working today, so he stuck with it.
Again, why does this matter? We weren't playing "other teams" today. We were playing Phoenix. And while Dirk was out during that second quarter, the Mavs put the game away. Yet, that was exactly the moment when you inexplicably complained that you "hate it when Carlisle does that crap." Why not save that complaint for a game where Dirk sits too long and the Mavs actually lose a lead, rather than expanding it by 15+ points? |
To expand on this point, Phoenix was down about eight points when their bench came in and brought it to 46-45. Then Gentry put the starters back in and suddenly it was 70-48. Somewhere in the middle of the run, JVG commented that Gentry should have left the bench in longer.
