Aaaaaaaaaaaaand there goes that theory.
I mean seriously, the Mavs still have the MLE, BAE, and when they traded two benched players and one rotation player for Marion they also got another extremely valuable trade chip out of it that allows them to further better the team. In the midst of all of that they've successfully improved their defense quite a lot.
Recap:
Significantly improved defense
Traded a $7m chip for a $5m chip and a starter
Held on to pieces that allow them to acquire more offensive firepower and/or defensive stoppers.
