Trail Blazers at Mavericks 7:30 p.m. today, FSSW, KESN-FM (103.3), KFLC-AM (1270 in Spanish)

Scouting the Blazers

They have had a nice start, largely because of the play of rookie point guard Damian Lillard, the sixth overall pick in the draft. Lillard joined Oscar Robertson as the only players ever to start their careers with at least 20 points and seven assists in each of their first three games. Great young player, Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said. He has an air of confidence about him that?s really impressive. We got to throw the kitchen sink at him. He's that good. Lillard's output, of course, comes in addition to that of Seagoville product LaMarcus Aldridge, who is averaging 22.7 points and 9.7 rebounds through three games. The Blazers are coming off an overtime win in Houston Saturday.

Scouting the Mavericks

They are coming off the best 3-point shooting game in franchise history at least by volume. They hit 16 of 25 from beyond the arc against Charlotte on Saturday, and the 64 percent success rate was their highest ever when trying at least 25 3-pointers. We shot the ball with confidence, said Vince Carter, who was 4-of-8 from downtown. And it wasn't like we ran a play for the shots. That was just something off of making plays, guys getting in the paint and finding the open man instead of forcing shots. Overall, the Mavericks shot 61.3 percent against the Bobcats, their highest shooting percentage in nearly three years (65.5 percent against Houston on Nov. 25, 2009).
