Nixon firing Archibald Cox didn't stop the Republicans from impeaching him -- it actually forced their hand... And Trump is in waaaay deeper than Nixon. These guys have midterms right around the corner, so it's going to come down to a simple choice: defend Trump or defend the GOP (guess which option has failed to inspire loyalty...)
