It all comes down to the CBA. Currently, there's too much finger-pointing. Players say they can be dealt at any time and want to control their own destiny. Owners complain about public stunts and losing their stars to big markets. It simply means you need much more security on both ends. No-trade clauses and severe penalties for violating contracts have to get much more common, just to name one very basic example.
