Actually, it's not that far fetched an idea, considering that Germany (don't know the numbers for other EU-countries) in 2005 imported only 23% of its crude oil from OPEC-countries. This number could be further reduced for sure. The problem is, that this would mean to increase the imports from Russia, and if you've ever been to Dubai, you have seen all those Russian oil-tycoons going all bling-bling and throwing around their money in bundles (it's being said that about 30% of all homes on
The Palm have been bought by Russians). So a direct boycott would most likely just lead to the money arriving a little later in the region.
