Glad I skipped Man of Steel and saw World War Z. As someone who didn't read the book beforehand, I was quite entertained.

Major plus in my book is that he got his kids to a safe place within in the first 20 minutes of the movie. There is nothing worse in a disaster flick than the protagonists spending the majority of the film trying to protect their dumb-ass kid from harm for the majority of the movie.
