I still don't have an issue with Butler honestly. Allegedly this all started after they traded for him and didn't give him an extension at that time. The new one that was added in the CBA, where it adds 10m to the salary and extends the contract 1 year. At least that's what Stephen A. Shit said... for whatever that's worth(not much rly). Yet they gave Wiggins a max deal. And if you are Butler and u are in practice and see Wiggins getting rewarded for playing no defense and being, well, not very good... and you yourself are busting ur ass and prolly the only one playing defense it might tick you off. But regardless he just seems like a dude who will tell u to ur face what he thinks of you. Lots of guys like that. I don't think he's just a numbers guy either, because his play leads to wins. I don't think this is what you were saying btw, but I thought I'd make the distinction anyway. Minny was clearly a top 4-6 seed with him last year and without him were out of the playoffs according to the advanced stats. For comparison I would love Butler and want nothing to do with Cousins(pre injury). Cousins to me puts up empty numbers, Butler to me helps you win.

The bigger issue if I were a Minnesota fan is this part from yesterday-

During Wednesday's practice, Butler reportedly challenged not only the Timberwolves' leadership, including Tom Thibodeau and Scott Layden, but also Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins. Additionally, Butler apparently took a team of third-stringers and easily beat the starters during a scrimmage.
If we maxed 2 players and called them our cornerstones and Barnes walked in off the street with no practice, no preseason, no nothing... and took Mejri, Powell or DFS, Broekhoff, and Brunson and beat down our starters "easily" and we had real playoff aspirations... that would be a huge red flag. What third stringer, or second stringer for that matter, on the Wolves bench has a prayer of guarding KAT? He is ranked around the top 15 in the NBA by fans/media. That alone should have made "easily" beating them something that should never happen. Add to it the rest of the guys should have a marked advantage at every position except where Butler is playing. It was also reported that some players were laughing about it when it was over... what exactly is funny about a team with playoff aspirations getting it's ass kicked by Butler and some random joes who may get spot minutes here and there?

Honestly it tells me he knows how to win and they don't. And he likely tells them as much and their feelings get hurt. He's not blameless obviously and if we had the assets and we didn't already have 2 ball dominant young players, one being from Europe, I would absolutely want him on this team. My only issue would be his mileage. Only way I see him living through a 5 year max as a great player at the end is if he became a 40% 3pt shooter to make up for the wear and tear his body has and will accrue over the next 5 years. Since our roster is what it is though, he would be too risky for me and as UD said, we aren't a player away from real contention. You do have to have guys who can handle an in your face alpha like that as well. DSJ I think can handle it. I'm not sure if Luka is ready for that given that I doubt anyone in Europe is remotely as in your face as Butler. Maybe if Butler had already been here that would be one thing, and I have no idea how he treats rookies. He seems to only really have an issue when a player is paid or regarded as a franchise player despite not putting in the work/effort he does and in contrast that same team doesn't show him the same commitment. But the risk/reward with our current roster is not worth it even if we had the assets to get him which we don't imo.
