I imagine the stats search goes something like this:
somebody like 82games.com has a huge database of every game/every stat in the game
person looking for random stat picks a starting point to see how many players have 50 steals/50 3-pts
Alot of results come back, so random stat dude ups the number to 100 steals/3-pts
Maybe a dozen comes back, so he bumps it to 130
none come back, so he drops it to 110 and get 4 results.
Random stat guy has now found a small exclusive club to write about.

I envy random stat guys access to that kind of data.
