Chaff, I second your thumbs-up for "Rashomon." Pretty much any Kurosawa is damn fine filmmaking. "Ikiru" is my favorite of his works. And if you haven't already, check out "Throne of Blood" for another great Mifune performance.

This week's NetFlix brought two French classics: "Les Enfants du Paradis," which as a romantic saga puts "Gone with the Wind" to shame IMHO, and "Rififi," an outstanding noir that along with Kubrick's "The Killing" and "The Asphalt Jungle" must have inspired Tarantino for "Reservoir Dogs."
