Jack Russell Jr. Benched again.

-16 (2nd worst on team), in 21 minutes; 9 points on 10 shots; 3 ast, 2 TO.

Doesn't see the floor in Q4 as Mudiay leads Nix to a comeback win, outscoring Magic by 17 in the 4th quarter, puttin' some stank in NIX tank.

Must be his lack of conditioning. Countdown to a mysterious illness any day now.

Up one game, down the next two. Inconsistency: The mark of a 2nd (or 3rd) tier talent.

Mavs sure dodged a bullet with this dog.

Interesting-ish fantasy league info; crappy recommendation because he sucked again.

On Friday night in the first game back from the ASB, Smith was benched in the 3rd quarter against the Grizzlies with over 7 minutes to go. He never returned to the game, finishing with just 22 minutes. Fizdale sat him down on Friday and told him his nutrition was bad and his sleep schedule was lazy (paraphrased). DSJ took it to heart and immediately started improving his habits. Fizdale said his energy was great last game where he played 30 minutes and had 52 DK points. He did that shooting under 50% and logging only 2 stocks. DSJ had 20 paint touches last game and Fizdale said when he has energy, it’s reflected by his paint touches. Dennis said eating and sleeping right is already helping him.

Fast forward a day, Monday was his first day shopping with a team nutritionist. He’s focusing on his nutrition and sleep heading into games so he can play more minutes and with more energy. Fizdale told him that he yanks him late in games if he’s making fatigue related mistakes. We don’t expect him to be yanked tonight as Smith really took the challenge to heart and wants to prove he can do this right. We expect more big games going forward and this is probably our last chance to get him under 7k coming off a 52-point game where his price somehow went down. DSJ will likely be a good play in the coming slates, but tonight in particular he is an awesome play while many people are unaware of this situation and probably avoiding paying for anyone in this first game given that it has the lowest Vegas total. Even without this narrative, Smith would be a good play at this price point as he’s averaging 42 FP/36 with the Knicks so far.
