The terrorists were primarily in Pakistan, not Afghanistan... Always have been. It should have been pretty obvious to our "intelligence" community, seeing as how Pakistan is the ONLY country on the planet that has ever recognized the Taliban's authority as a government, even back in 2001/2002...

But, you know, Pakistan is the 3rd-biggest recipient of financial aid from the United States every year (not to mention nukes), so I guess it was a better PR move on the American homefront to keep bombing the f*ck out of Afghanistan until we could finish building the Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline. At least we kept the appearance of trying to do something about the guy who caused 9/11, even though we really had no interest in looking for him...

But it's always easier to blame someone else for your own actions, and it's even easier to get away with it when your scapegoat is a piece of sh!t like bin Laden. We used 9/11 as a free pass to do whatever we wanted in the Middle East, and we did. We completely OWN that region of the world now - between us and Israel, we have troops in (or on the border of) every Mid-East nation.

But the terrorists aren't the ones who have suffered the most at the hands of America in Afghanistan - it's the people. It's always the people. At the end of the day, this can't be justified by this - both actions are the result of squabbling rich assholes who have no qualms about using our lives for their profit.
