NVE/Dampier to Dallas...Screw Portland
If NVE and Dampier are really on the trading block...which offer is more attractive to Golden State? Wallace straight up for NVE and Dampier or how about a proposed offer from Dallas?
Dallas gives Walker, Delk, Best, Najera, Daniels, Cash, and a 2nd round pick for NVE, Dampier, and Eschmeyer? I know...lol...Eschmeyer...the big spare.
According to ESPN Insider, Golden State is trying to get salary cap space this year and go after priemier free agents i.e. Kobe. Why? The Suns will have tons of salary cap space this offseason. So will the Spurs. I'm thinking Kobe or any other free agent will have Phoenix or San Antonio ahead of Golden State. With that said, isn't it more beneficial to have salary cap space next year when no major teams will really be under the cap? As we all know, Walker is a FA next year...thats approximately 15 million off the books for the Warriors. Off the top of my head...I dont know who are the FAs next year...I believe K-mart is one but I'm sure there are some others. My point is which is a better offer for Golden State...Getting Wallace or getting a package of Walker, Delk, Best, Daniels, Najera, Cash, Draft pick, and getting rid of Eschmeyer's pathetic contract?
All I know is that NVE and Dampier are players that can help this team immensely. A solid rotation of Nash, Finley, Howard, Nowitski, Dampier, NVE, Jamison, Bradley...wow.

A big difference is Wallace's contract ends this year and Walker's doesn't end until next year.

Golden State appears to want to burn the team to the ground - they don't want to be mediocre, they want to be REAALLY bad to get a good pick and also have cap room.

RE:NVE/Dampier to Dallas...Screw Portland
Walker wouldn't make them mediocre.....besides walker can opt out at the end of this season anyway.
Walker ($13.5million) plus max trade cash($3mill)+ Best ($1mill)=more than sheed $17mill!!!!
The question is, is Dampier really on the block???

Walker is not going to opt out at the end of the season. he would be taking an enormous pay cut to do it. Not going to happen

Gollee Gosh..a first poster dissing El...EL is a longtime contributing member...with a sense of humor..
And you're not. The proposal is just typical akaarod...4 players, cash and a pick for "what we had"(NVE), Damp...and an idiot that we were happy to get rid of (Esch) .
So, before you diss EL...tell me EXACTLY why we'd want NVE and Esch back..We traded them out...
And after that, just tell me when you've last seen an NBA trade that was 4 reserves for 2 starters .
We're SO VERY interested in your INFO.
P.S. ....if you didn't get it...EL's image was just a "burning it down" comment on what had been previously said in the thread...about GS' intentions.

Thanks for the kind comments...anyways...Why would we want NVE and Esch back? Well I could care less about Eschmeyer. Are you telling me you wouldnt welcome NVE back? Best has played OK as of late...but NVE is a totally different player...a terrific back-up PG...solves a big problem. The key is Dampier...thats the guy I want. And considering that apparently the latest rumor (see the other thread...i believe it was from ESPN radio) was NVE, Dampier, Murphy, AND a protected #1 for Wallace and Patterson...can you explain that to me?
PS...EL...I know you're a contributing member...it hurts that I got the "burning it down image"...its OK...I'll take it in stride

RE:NVE/Dampier to Dallas...Screw Portland
Akaarod..Back up.. for a second. El's "Burning it Down" image was just a riff off of what Max said earlier...had she wanted to give YOU the flamethrower or nuclear weapons..I'm sure that should would have done that. But UHCO, in his first post on this board, dissed the brilliance of El..and I won't watch that...she's a "Made Woman" in our family....I may not agree with Max, MadApe, KG, ..and many others, at various times, but I'll stick up for them...in front of someone making a first post to just diss them...
Now back to b-ball and your trade idea...
1) Would I like NVE back...?
Yes I would...if his knee's ok..and we can get him for a very small price.
2) Would I like Dampier ?
Yes I would....my fantasy is to get Dampier in a sign and trade...sign TAG... and pair them with Shawn.. The Mavs have NEVER had a 5 roatation like THAT.
I can understand why GS might like Walker...(but it does seem like they want to DUMP contracts, rather than picking them up) But I have no idea why they'd like Delk, Best and Eddie...Daniels is a good thing for them...but he doen't outweight the trash...Akaarod, if you'd like this trade to float...just tell me why GS does it...
I'm having a hard time understanding one thing from your last post...and it was the "Explain it to me" comment...
Quote:
apparently the latest rumor (see the other thread...i believe it was from ESPN radio) was NVE, Dampier, Murphy, AND a protected #1 for Wallace and Patterson...can you explain that to me?
|
ARE you expecting me to explain what you read on ESPN about the GS/Port trade idea...if that's the case, I don't really know WHY you're asking that...You might want to ask the PERSON WHO WROTE IT.

RE:NVE/Dampier to Dallas...Screw Portland
I was listening to one of the stations over here and they said that NVE and his agent are pushing this trade and all but running over Gary St. Jean in the process.
They believe this trade will go through and that the next player out the door will be Jason Richardson.

Well, not that I'm taking anyone's side, but the flamethrower, atom bomb explosion, forest fire, schtick is a bit annoying, no matter who does it. It seems to be a characteristic with the board though, so it's here to stay.

RE:NVE/Dampier to Dallas...Screw Portland
OutletPass: As far as the "Explain it to me" comment...I was just speaking out loud. I mean it's absurd that GS is willing to trade NVE, Dampier, Murphy, AND a protected #1 for Wallace and problem-child Patterson. This is something that seems legit...coming from ESPN Insider and ESPN radio...not from some spare fan from ESPN message board. It's pretty clear that NVE will not be a Warrior a month from now. GS is dangling Dampier out with the notion that the other team has to take on NVE and his bad contract. I'm like why doesnt Dallas get involved? To get Dampier, you have to take on NVE? Shoot...where do I sign? If Cuban is willing to take on another bad contract like Eschmeyer or Clifford Robinson (guys that are not in the Warriors plan)...by all means Mark...do it...I'm thinking GS would strongly consider it. Looking at it from GS perspective, why would they want salary cap space this year? I mean I said this earlier but it does them no good. There will be teams like Phoenix and San Antonio that will have significant salary cap space as well. I'm assuming any big name FA will consider them before GS. With Walker coming off the book next year, they'll have that desired salary cap space. Whatever it takes to get Dampier...get him...assuming he is on the trading block. I like his game, personality, everything about him. The guy is legit and would be terrific here in Dallas.

" I mean it's absurd that GS is willing to trade NVE, Dampier, Murphy, AND a protected #1 for Wallace and problem-child Patterson" ...."This is something that seems legit...coming from ESPN Insider and ESPN radio"
I agree that the trade idea seems absurd. But I dont agree that ESPN as the source legitimizes it, unfortunately. I have noticed that when it comes to the Mavs recently, they have been willing to toss out trade lunacy - and for a Mav fan it is easier to recognize. So IMO this is created from the same "trade speculation chamber" that is fueled by non-thinkers in ESPN's domain.
And for what its worth, I agree with uhco and akaarod - the flamethrower/etc stuff is lame when it is just tossed over and over without comment. If you dont think something makes sense, say why. Failing to give rational input is like a 3 yr-old throwing rocks IMO - yes we know your opinion, but it does nothing to advance the debate. And isnt the whole point of a form supposed to be to ENCOURAGE talk and interaction rather than to stifle it?

RE:NVE/Dampier to Dallas...Screw Portland
OK...I've changed my mind. Let's involve Portland in this deal. Would this be beneficial for all 3 teams involved?
Dallas trades Antoine Walker and Travis Best
Dallas receives Erick Dampier, Speedy Claxton, and Evan Eschmeyer (thrown in for salary cap purposes)
Portland trades Rasheed Wallace and Wesley Person
Portland receives NVE and Antoine Walker
Golden State trades Eric Dampier, NVE, Speedy Claxton, and Evan Eschmeyer
Golden State receives Rasheed Wallace, Wesley Person, and Travis Best
Why Dallas does it? Pretty obvious. Dampier. The guy is legit and would fill a major need. Also, I've always liked Claxton's game...he would be a nice young backup PG
Why Portland does it? Is NVE and Walker enough to get them into the playoffs and continue their consecutive making the playoffs streak? I'm not sure...it may be too late. However, from a talent perspective, to get NVE and Walker for a guy that will probably leave them in free agency is a coup for them.
Why Golden State does it? Three words...salary cap space. All three players are FAs at the end of the year...thats about 26 million in salary coming off the books this offseason. They would have a gaping hole at PG...but they can either address that in free agency or via the draft. It really looks Golden State is just trying to start all over. Good luck with all that.
Your thoughts...

RE:NVE/Dampier to Dallas...Screw Portland
I like this trade from our point. Just not sure if Portland would rather have Walker than Dampier since they now have Miles as their SF. Also not so sure GS would trade both NVE and Claxton since that would leave them with Best and Avery as their PG and makes it a must that they spend their first pick on one or have to get one in FA. Otherwise I think this could fly on all parts.

Why would the warriors want to trady dampier at all?? He seems to be having a career year and doesn't seem to be tremendously overpaid?

According to the papers/radio stations around here is that Dampier is going to opt-out of his contract and has told the Warriors that he won't play for the Warriors next year.

Mark Cuban, should call Van Exel and apologize (tell him Big 3 miss him) & get nick to push the Dallas deal.
Supposedly Dallas made a pitch involving walker 4 Exel and Dampier!!!

RE:NVE/Dampier to Dallas...Screw Portland
This would have to be the trade the Mav's put out on the table. Otherwise it would have to be TAW in the trade, and the warriors are not looking for any more bad contracts. I can definately see the Mav's maybe taking a gamble because this would lock up as good a team as you can get through FA like they have done. This would definately bring back order in the front court for the Mav's moving Dirk back to PF and having Dampier at C would have to no doubt help their rebounding percentage and interior defense, and when you think about it they gave up R. Lafrentz to get A. Walker. Essentially the trade would be for Raef you got NVE back along with one of the top 3 centers in the west.
I would think the Warriors wouldn't do this trade without Portland being involved. They want an expiring contract after this season, but if I was Don Nelson I would take a long hard look before I let center like Dampier go away to another team (especially a divison rival; such as the Grizzles)...
Dallas trades: PG Tony Delk (6.6 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 0.8 apg in 16.3 minutes)
SF Eduardo Najera (3.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 0.4 apg in 13.7 minutes)
PF Antoine Walker (15.9 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 5.4 apg in 37.9 minutes)
Dallas receives: C Erick Dampier (12.0 ppg, 11.6 rpg, 0.7 apg in 32.2 minutes)
PG Nick Van Exel (13.1 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 5.8 apg in 33.5 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -0.7 ppg, -0.1 rpg, and -0.1 apg.
Golden State trades: C Erick Dampier (12.0 ppg, 11.6 rpg, 0.7 apg in 32.2 minutes)
PG Nick Van Exel (13.1 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 5.8 apg in 33.5 minutes)
Golden State receives: PG Tony Delk (6.6 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 0.8 apg in 29 games)
SF Eduardo Najera (3.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 0.4 apg in 28 games)
PF Antoine Walker (15.9 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 5.4 apg in 47 games)
Change in team outlook: +0.7 ppg, +0.1 rpg, and +0.1 apg.
TRADE ACCEPTED
Due to Dallas and Golden State being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Dallas and Golden State had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement

BREAKING NEWS!!!!
Van Exel wants to play 4 Dallas according to Hoopshype, look at my previous post....Mark Cuban apologized!!!!!
Maybe Van Exel will convince Warriors Management to trade him 2 Dallas w/Dampier, b/c he doesn't want to have to opt out of his huge contract?????
Is there any way we can email him or something?

He will definately have to restructure his current contract for next season to come back because Nash is going to demand max pay after this season, but the paycut will not have to be hugh to retain Nash...(you would have to think how injury prone NVE is..that this would seem within reason, but in my opinion alot of players in the league are not excited about getting a paycut without some guarantee of a ring hence Malone & Payton)...

Would this lineup be flamethrow worthy....
Starting lineup:
PG - Nash
SG - Finley
SF - Jamison
PF - Nowitzki
C - Dampier
Bench:
PG - Best
SG - Van Exel
SF - Howard
PF - Fortson
C - Bradley
I could live with that lineup, but that's just me......

BREAKING NEWS!!
Walker isn't going ANYWHERE!
Anyone that believes that Walker is opting out of a contract (the likes of which he may never see again) that pays him 14 million a year needs to put down the crack pipe immediately.
Next year, Walker will be a Dallas Maverick....and maybe...So will NICK.

RE: NVE/Dampier to Dallas...Screw Portland
BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re NVE and this quote "Van Exel wants to play 4 Dallas according to Hoopshype, look at my previous post....Mark Cuban apologized!!!!!" .... That is badly twisted out of context.
NVE was talking specifically about 2005-06 season. That is 2 years from now. That has nothing to do with a trade.
Sheeeeesh.

RE: NVE/Dampier to Dallas...Screw Portland
NICKY ...you said "He will definately have to restructure his current contract for next season "
Restructuring of existing contract is not allowed in the NBA. End of story.

You can restructure a contract if the team is under the salary cap.

MAX .... in the sense that it was mentioned here (ie, "restructuring" to lower the size of a contract), that is NEVER allowed in the NBA. You can renegotiate UPWARD to a limited extent under certain conditions, if you are under the cap, but that scenario certainly wouldnt apply to NVE's situation.

ESPN Insider is mentioning that Dallas would love to make a deal with GS for Nick and Dampier.
That is one deal I would make right now and not worry about chemistry...

I'd also love to make that deal....... as long as it involves NONE of the Hawaii-Five-O's

-- I saw that one too, DD...along with the Walker for Barry, Booth and James idea...
I'm with you on this one....I like the Walker for NVE/Dampier trade ASSUMING that NVE's knee is ok. This idea may pick up some speed...along with the Walker for Curry, etc. idea as we move towards the 19th.
The GS deal is definitely interesting for the summer if we can't get it done by the deadline. It's certainly a rumor to watch.
