Marion for Gordon in the works?

Sunday Scoop: Blockbuster In Works?

What of a Blockbuster?
According to Yahoo! Sports this morning, at least three sources mentioned in the last week that the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat had held some serious conversations about a blockbuster trade centering around Ben Gordon and Shawn Marion.
The rumor had Chicago signing and trading Gordon, along with Larry Hughes and possibly Joakim Noah, to Miami in exchange for Marion and point guard Marcus Banks.
On paper it looks as if this move could help both teams, but this isn't the sort of move the Bulls would make considering Shawn Marion's contract is up at the end of the season. They'd happily move Larry Hughes for that talent and that contract, but giving up Noah and Gordon for a guy that could vamoose after a season is a little too risky for Bulls GM John Paxson.
Seems like the same logic hit the GMs talking about this deal, as Yahoo! also added that talks have been dead for over a week. Why didn't we hear about this sooner?
|

So it sounds like...even though we didn't hear about it, it could be dead lol.

Personally I'd put Udonis Haslem in the trade as opposed to Shawn Marion.

I was gonna come in here and say why the hell would want the Heat want Wade and Gordon on the same team. But if they're basically throwing in Joakim Noah and Larry Hughes i'd definately do it. Seems like they're over trading for Marion. I thought a Marion and Gordon deal was pretty even.

Marion and Gordon pretty even? If you're a HUGE Bulls fan! Not even close.
And Haslem opposed to Marion? Why, do the Bulls really need more mediocre PF's?

Marion is a certifiable 2nd or 3rd tier star. Gordon is a strong MLE-type player.
Miami needs Gordon like Cass Elliot needs a Quiznos gift certificate.

What a terrible trade that would be for Miami. Maybe we should offer up Howard for D-Wade and see if they bite.

Bad deal as written, but Marion for Gordan could work out fine for Chicago/Miami with the right pieces.

If Gordan can land Marion...then Howard easily could.
Josh better have a huge year...and not just stats-wise...

Not necessarily. Miami already has a slasher in Wade. They have Beasley to go inside.
Gordan is a shooter.
IMO, Miami would be more likely to offer Marion for JTerry than for JHo.

I don't think they are in the same league (Gordan and Howard)....from a "need" standpoint maybe you're correct. But Gordon is basically a one trick pony while Marion and Howard are both all around guys. Interesting take though.

IMO, Jet would be the better bet because he understands how to be a #3 guy.
Gordan wants to be the #1 option.
Marion wants to be the #1 or at least #2 option.
IMO -- DWade and Beasley are the top two options there, and that is probably where the Marion issues are coming from.

I'd love to lose JET for Marion...but that seems like dreaming. Are we even allowed to dream around mavsland?

Doesn't Kidd/Dirk seem like Nash/Amare that he was trying to get away from?
And yes it would be a nice dream.

Except Kidd doesn't shoot as much as Nash and Dirk plays from the outside more than Amare...
Marion would be the #2 scorer on this team, but he'd most likely be the #1 option in the paint (which would earn him plenty of reel-time on Sports Center...)

Exactly...Marion would be the clear #2 offensive option...the offensive system will not be as wild as PHX either.

Just saying:
Dirk/Kidd/Marion = ringS

Really ? ? ?
I wouldn't think so on paper, anyway.
Kobe, Odom, Gasol, Bynum.
Paul, Peja, West, Chandler
Deron, AK47, Boozer, Okur
TMac, Battier, Artest, Yao
ringS ? ?
Now if it didn't cost Howard or Terry, and you could get him for Stack/Jones/etc.....
Kidd/JHo/Marion/Dirk/DD --- with Terry coming in as the shooter --maybe.
Kidd/Terry/Marion/Dirk/DD -- can't D with the punishing guards.
Kidd/JHo/Marion/Dirk/DD -- only has Dirk with an outside J -- (well Marions set shot as well)
Not that I am against this, but I just don't see a huge upgrade with Marion because he isn't a true inside presence on offense (center), and isn't a true SG either. So I don't see how you get to be dominant and claim ringS. Maybe a ring yes, but ringS.......I just don't see this as being the trade that would do it.

I could see Kidd/JET/Marion/Dirk/Damp (Diop)
making a serious run...

It would actually be lots of fun.
Terry would have to take DFish.
Kidd on Kobe with help from Marion/Diop.
Marion on Odom
Dirk on Gasol
Diop on Bynum while helping on Kobe........
That would be some fun to watch.

I see that potential lineup as better than our current one....which "we like".

Agreed.
I see a trade for Al Harrington from GS as a better option though, if they could do it for Stack/Jones and a few mill.
Kidd, JHo, Harrington, Dirk, DD with Terry and Bass coming off the bench seems like a better plan, IMO.
Supposedly Harrington wants out with Maggette, SJax, BDiddy gone, Ellis, Wright, etc all vying for time.
Kidd on DFish and helping on Kobe
JHo on Kobe
Harrington on Odom
Dirk on Gasol
Diop on Bynum with help on Kobe.
Now this team could be legit with the ability to push back.
When they went small: Kidd, Terry, JHo, Harrington, Dirk could run many teams out of the building.
Bass doesn't have Harrington range, but could be in that role as well.
I can see that working much better, and not costing near as much.

I just don't see Harrington being had for so little...I would be willing to throw Bass into that package to get him. Would you?

Maybe, but he isn't proficient at the three ball, so I doubt that Nellie would want him.
Ellis/Williams at the Point
SJax/Magette/Azimbuke/Binelli at the swing
Biedrins/Wright/Turiaf/Randolf (rookie) at Frontline.
I can see why Al Harrington wants out.
Does Harrington like Carlisle though and vice versa? I have no idea about their relationship.
If they did the deal, it would be for cap space and Stack/Jones would clear some of that for them.

I think Bass would be right up Nellie's street...a smallish big with great touch...he could play the 5.

Yes, but Nellie would complain that he didn't block every shot.
I could see Nellie playing him 15m a game there though. Heck he played Najera there 15 a game, Bass might get 20 since he can shoot.

I could see Nellie being mad scientist enough to think he could turn Bass into an all star...plus he is young and makes next to nothing.

all that being said, I still think a player of Marion's caliber would be just what this team needs...

Harrington clearly doesn't fit in GS. They don't use him properly. He's a matchup nightmare- too quick for most Pf, too big for SF to defend. We could use some of that. Versatile defender as well. He would definitely help us. He can also back up Dirk if we had to include Bass. But we would lose some depth(Stack/Bass).
Not sure about GS needing a salary dump though. I know they signed Ellis, Biedrins, Maggette and Azebuike and maybe had a trade exception which expired. Not sure we have what it takes to get Harrington but it's a great idea.
