Playoffs GDT: Lakers @ Mavs, Game 4, 5/8/2011, 2:30pm Central (ABC)
The NBA "experts" are utterly confused, but still refuse to give any credit to the Mavs. Chuck smiles as he anticipates their humiliation and demise.
Today, on a day normally reserved for the celebration of motherhood and the conception of life, the Mavs will deal the final death blow to a champion, an era, and a career.
The time is now.

No hesitation, no standing around, especially for Dirk. Drive and put the pressure on them since we are on our own court today. And for heaven's sake, RC, let's play to win. Let's not play not to lose.
And I hope Artest gets more time and Odom less time!

A win would be so sweet. Additionally, it's important not to give the Lakers any confidence and not let them go back to LA with a win. Let's finish them off right now!

Please Mavs just don't relax, stay focused and finish them tonight.
Marion has to step up on both ends.

Kobe and Phil bitching about the refs. I'm not surprised though. Trying to influence the zebras for today's match as they are facing elimination.
Quote:
Phil, Kobe Plead Pau’s Case
May 7, 2011 · 9:24PM
DALLAS – Watching Lakers coach Phil Jackson pop Pau Gasol in the chest during Game 3 Friday night made it seem like he was angry that his All-Star power forward has struggled to perform up to his own standards during this Western Conference semifinal.
But Jackson jumped to Gasol’s defense Saturday, questioning the officiating in the three games and why the Dallas Mavericks are being allowed to move Gasol out of the way with a “high knee” deep in the low post. He said the New Orleans Hornets did the same thing in the Lakers’ first round series, courtesy of the ways the officials have been instructed to call — or not call — the play in those situations.
“I’ve resisted [saying] this the whole playoffs, but the NBA used to call a ‘knee up the a–,’ that’s what they called it,” Jackson said before the Lakers’ Saturday afternoon practice. “You couldn’t lift a knee off the floor to run a guy off the post — they’ve been doing that every time [against Gasol]. They’re taking him out of the post and he can’t get a tight post spot. We didn’t complain about it against New Orleans, but the Mavs are doing the same damn thing and until the league goes back to the rules that they have about playing post play, Pau’s got to move out and face the basket.”
Kobe Bryant came to Gasol’s defense, too, what with Gasol taking fire from everywhere — including this nasty Twitter smackdown from noted Lakers fan Snoop Dogg.
“He looks fine,” Bryant said. “They are letting the defender get away with quite a bit with him, shoving him off the post. But he’s not playing too bad. He’s not playing as well as we’re accustomed to seeing him play. But he’s still playing well … he’s doing what he normally does. He’s getting the looks he normally gets. He’s just converting at as high a percentage as he usually does, 65 percent or whatever it is. But he’s fine.”
Bryant admitted that he wasn’t his usual self in the final five minutes of Game 3, when the Lakers were outscored 20-7 during crunch time.
“The last five minutes is when I go to work,” Bryant said of the last five minutes. “And I didn’t do that the last game. I’ve got to make those plays. I’ve got to go get the ball and make those plays.”

The time is now - so let's...
btw:
At times during the last game it looked like we were falling in love with the 3-ball, let's hope that we're going to drive it more this time.
I mean guys like J.Kidd, Jet and Peja can go ice cold resulting in a game getting away from you in a hurry.

Fine Phil, we'll stop putting our knee up Gasol's ass. We'll just start putting our foot up his ass instead. Is that better?

Gotta go for the kill today! We HAVE to come out strong and not let up all game. Cannot overlook these Lakers. If we give them any sight of daylight, it will be an uphill battle. Finish them off today so we can get some rest for the next series. If we don't get the W today, it will only get tougher and tougher.

After game 1, I told a buddy at work "at least it won't be a sweep." Then I thought for a second and added "well, maybe there will be." We all laughed thinking it was impossible. But perhaps this is our time.
We have now the same team that won 18 of 19 after Butler went down, and before Roddy came back. Winning for this bunch is not a fluke.
More must be said about the incredible job Kidd has done defending Kobe. He may be old and slow, but he's so damned smart! He rarely goes for the fake, and when he gets beat, he generally sends Kobe towards the help. Held to 17 points by the NBA's almost oldest man!
Also under reported- the job Dirk is doing on Gasol. The fact is, Dirk can cover Gasol, and Pau cannot even slow Dirk down. Lakers bigs dominated all year playing against smaller front-courts. The Mavs match up pretty well. We are not afraid.
The Lakers have convinced themselves that they gave away these games. The reality is, they have been beaten. Pressured into bad passes. So freaked by Dirk's awesomeness, they leave JJ and Peja and Jet to roam. We are in their heads... lets kick more ass.
This will be the hardest, but I expect the Mavs to Man-up, and send the Lakers out on our home court!

Very smart. I'm going to be at my in-laws for at least part of this game. Still haven't decided how to handle this. Could try for radio silence and watch delayed, or stay up to date on Twitter and watch what I can. I'm leaning towards the latter.

Twitter is so much more responsive and you get more detailed information vs ESPN Play by Play and Box score.

Found this on the Laker forum:
The Lakers are 0-4 since 2003 in elimination games on the road, with an average margin of defeat of 23 points. The Lakers are now 6-10 in their past 16 games, and many of those losses were the result of 4th quarter meltdowns. The Lakers have also performed excessively poorly in recent early Sunday games, which is unfortunately the scheduled time for Game 4. Recent and older Lakers history both suggest a Lakers loss in Game 4.

Better bench will win again, and I don't see much to convince me that LA's will play better.

Is all the Chuck Norris stuff in reference to Barkley's prediction or just out of Chuck Norris appreciation?
