Offense running through the point forward position
First of all, this is not an Antione Walker bashing post. I like some of the things he does (rebound and hustle), and dislike some too (shot selection and erratic play at times). But over the first 20% of the season I'm not sure I like the offense running through the point forward. It seems like Walker holds the ball for an extremely long time prior to dribbling, passing or shooting and this lets the defense 're-set' and adjust accordingly. It also appears that the other four on the court do very little moving or motion - looking at Walker to make a move. It seems like our offense flows better with better motion when Nash is setting up the offense, penetrating, or picking and rolling with Dirk or another player (Walker, Jamison?). I'd like to see us scrap the point forward concept and go back to the type of offense that made us succesful last year (and years prior). I think both Walker and Jamison would fit in well with that type of offense too.
Clearly our defense is still like a sieve at times in the middle. I think our perimeter defense is better but as long as we zone we will continue to have defensive problems in the middle and intermittent rebounding problems too. We still need a physical big man........
