The Mavs held the spurs to 44 points in the second half..including only 19 in the 4th.

There hasn't been enough credit thrown to nellie and the players for their defensive contributions...whether it was bradley in the third.. dirk, fin and nash in the 4th.. The Mavs stepped up defensively.

Dirk's play on Duncan in the 4th was huge..along with his and raef's defense on him for his last shot.

Fin forced parker into several bad looks including a really bad off balance shot on in the final minute. Nash came up with a key steal that led to a layup.

Bradley changed the game with his defensive tenacity in the third..

Great job

Murph, your right the Mavs did play pretty good D in the 2nd half. The Mavs have the best offense in the NBA. They don't have to have the best defense or anywhere close to it. All the Mavs need to play is a litte D and get some key and timely stops to go with their offensive fire power. They did this.

I would go as far as to say that the mavs played more than just a "little d" or "pretty good" defense in the second half.

They played good defense and should get credit for it

The most IMPRESSIVE thing about the Mavs defense is the last 2:15 the Spurs did NOT SCORE A POINT!!!!!!

The Mavs have shown some impressive growth in their ability to get the key stops in crunch time in these playoffs. They're very underrated in this aspect IMO.

Their defense in the second half, and in particular in the final minutes, was excellent. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

i believe the Spurs shot around 60% in the first half..for the game, they shot 48.6%.

So, it looks as if the mavs probably held the spurs to around the 40% range in the second half. Plus, the mavs continued their stellar free throw defense.

That was really impressive. Both teams actually played great defense in the clutch. The Spurs kept getting key stops when we were down a couple of points, and I expected that they would put us away on the other end, but our defense proved to be even better. They were 0-5 in the last 2 minutes while we were 2-5. Here's the game log:

2:14 107-110 Tony Parker missed 13 ft Jumper.
2:04 Dirk Nowitzki made Two Point Shot. 109-110
1:40 109-110 Danny Ferry missed 25 ft Three Point Jumper.
1:32 Dirk Nowitzki missed 14 ft Jumper. 109-110
1:08 109-110 Tony Parker missed 2 ft Two Point Shot. Blocked by Dirk Nowitzki.
0:52 Nick Van Exel missed Jumper. 109-110
0:50 Raef LaFrentz missed Two Point Shot. 109-110
0:27 109-110 Tony Parker missed 17 ft Two Point Shot.
0:14 Michael Finley made Two Point Shot. 111-110
0:06 111-110 Tim Duncan missed Jumper.
0:04 111-110 Emanuel Ginobili Personal Foul
0:04 Dirk Nowitzki made Free Throw 1 of 2. 112-110
0:04 Dirk Nowitzki made Free Throw 2 of 2. 113-110
0:04 Dallas Full Timeout. 113-110
0:03 Nick Van Exel Personal Foul 113-110
0:03 113-110 Tim Duncan missed Free Throw 1 of 2.
0:03 113-110 San Antonio Offensive Rebound.
0:00 Steve Nash Defensive Rebound. 113-110
