It is going on a week now since the first press report that Buckner was going to sign a deal with the Sixers, and still no signing and/or S & T deal announced. This is driving me nuts!!!

What is odd to me is that I think Philly is close to luxury tax territory. I am surprised that they want so badly to keep their mid-level exception.

I just wonder what the hell is going on. It doesn't take this long to work a S & T deal which means that somebody is holding out. My question is why. It's not like this is a major deal with franchise players that will greatly affect the marketplace. This is a minor deal for a couple of role players at best so what's the reason for the hold up?

Wouldn't they be in luxury tax territory if they spent it??

Yeah, Philly ain't run by Cuban. Why does Philly want to save their mid-level exception and spend it so badly later?
Signing Buck and letting Harpring go won't save them any money, but doing a sign and trade would ultimately raise their payroll. Why are they so interested in doing so?

They probably want to add more than just buckner. They'll take any deal that gives them flexibility. It is better to S&T early and keep the flexibility in the exception. Plus, Buck probably won't take up the whole exception, and it leaves it too short to do anything with.

Well, it is a buyers market this summer... Philly is a semi-healthy DC and a 15 PPG scorer away from the Finals again (stupid Eastern Conf.).. so with the full exception, they can pick up that 15 point scorer, easily, and maybe do better than that.
Right now they're supposed to be hot on Rodney Rogers.

And they want Buck too. The Philly trainers will earn their money next year for sure.

Philly trainers have been earning their money for the last couple of years (Ratliff, Snow, McKee, Iverson, Coleman . . .) Or maybe given that history, they are not earning their money.
