We need the players to play well to win, I think. All 37 coaches need to make adjustments necessary too.

Ok well Luka is paying lazy regardless if you think he looks out of shape or not. This is ridiculously hard to watch.

Well now we're only really terrible so that's an improvement.

Callie Caplan:
During that timeout, Luka wasn't on the bench with the rest of the team when Jason Kidd was talking.
I'm too far away to decipher exact body language, but he was talking and gesturing with Igor Kokoskov and Peter Patton off to the side. Then slumped over, his hands on his knees.

I hope Kidd will be a good head coach. I really do. It's super early right now. I won't judge yet. In fact, I think we may need a season.

They might need more time but right now I'm not that impressed with Brown or Bullock.
Just seems like they were just two average pickups added to the team for depth purposes.
I'd like to see Frank get some minutes because he might be a little more impactful

You mean, because having a team full of 3 and D guys isn't the way? No...
It's early though and Bullock missed preseason, but there isn't much leeway around another poor FA.

Well it's a win. We have the same record now as the previously unbeatable Atlanta Hawks.

It helps when option 1, 2 and 3 get going.
Defense looked solid. Especially as the game went on.
Kidd and Co made adjustments, got us some better spaced possession. We still missed lots of open looks.

So Kidd can still be 81-1. Not complaining.

If this team succeeds it will be because Luka has the ball in his hands "too much". Any ceding of possessions to other replacement level players on the Mavs is a suboptimal strategy. Kidd ostensibly figured this out by the 7th quarter (3rd quarter last night) of his Mavs coaching career.

Again though, and I'm not sure how many times it has to be repeated until the aneurism bursts, but it's because they refused to get a secondary playmaker.
The Mavs NEED Luka to be a playmaker because he is the ONLY ONE.
And it's still so bizarre that because our former crap GM said Luka needs to get his teammates more involved that we've come to trying to get the ball out of his hands.

This IMO is where Jalen Brunson just hasn't excelled.
The Mavs reluctance to put guys like Brunson, Powell or Kleber in trades because they are good culture guys is mind boggling.
Every year we rave about Brunson and post stats of how he stacks up vs other players around the league but for some odd reason we got an owner stating the team needs a secondary ball handler/playmaker and fans mention this same thing.
It's amazing that for 3-4 years with Luka on board the mavs have yet to acquire anyoner that can do those things via either free agency/draft who could help him out.
Really starting to think we busted on Josh Green
I expect them to be a 5th or 6th seed but unfortunately the way this roster continues to be built I think we are looking at another 1st round exit unless luka goes bonkers like 2011 prime Dirk doing the post season and plays out his mind.

But at least Brunson is the only other guy that can create his own shot, so it is sometimes unfair to put the blame on him.
The positive is that S. Brown and Bullock are very good defenders even if they haven't figured out their roles yet. Once the Mavs cave and make KP center, then I think we could be a very stout defensive team.

My only concern with KP at C is that the Mavs become smaller with DFS at 4 and then they get destroyed on a nightly basis on the boards.
Unless they move Kleber to the 4
Powell had 2 rebounds yesterday in 25+ minutes which isn't good

I would bet 5 bucks that if Moses Brown got the confidence that Powell has that he would be just as good if not better...maybe by a good margin.
Powell does some of the little things well, but he can't ever overcome the fact that he has basically no talent.

I'm not really buying that Kidd and company was influenced by Donnie fn Nelson suggesting that Luka has the ball in his hands too much. I am buying that in order for Luka to have something in the tank to finish close games down the stretch that he at least needs 1) someone who can at least bring the ball down the floor and give it back so he can run PnR and sets in general. 2) Someone who can help defend quick PGs so he doesn't blow his load on defending jitterbugs.
I completely agree that we needed a playmaker alongside Luka. I was all hard up for Derozan but peoples heads nearly fell off because he doesn't launch 3s like THJ.
Agreeing with Zuess to some degree that we will be more successful if Luka is generating our offense. BUT defense is going to be as important. I think the happy medium is allowing others to occasionally bring the ball down the floor so Luka doesn't have to every possession but then we need to get it back to him most possessions too though unless someone else has an advantage. A few times KP had good position so we went to him early and it paid off and I'm fine with that because we need him going too.

Brown and Bullock is on Kidd, he had all offseason, training camp and preseason to figure this out. To not have a role from them is a waste of time on Kidd's part. What has he been doing? Bullock and Brown are shooters, you put them in when you need to space the floor. Good defenders, NBA vets, always have a role. Bullock's got to be the 6th, 1st wing off the bench.

Bullock missed some of training camp due to personal reasons. I think it's quite reasonable to be working him into the fold still.
I hoped to see more from Brown but he really hasn't been very good in the first 2 games.
It's still wayyyy too early to be up in arms about anything not being a fine tuned machine. Several new players, 37 new coaches, some adjustments in the schemes on both ends.
This should be a slow boil, not a WTF is Kidds problem after 2 games. After 10 games if we don't have any answers and we look lost and his rotations lack logic like ol' Rigid Ricks did, then we can start freaking out.

Don’t look at me. I’m like 12-48 in the last three seasons. (0-1 this season)
