Jamison to get Sixth Man Award
DALLAS -- For his play in his first season coming off the bench, Mavericks forward Antawn Jamison will earn the NBA's Sixth Man Award, league sources told ESPN.com's Marc Stein on Wednesday.
The official announcement will come on Friday.
Until this season, Jamison had been a starter every season for the Warriors. Jamison, though, accepted a new role with his new team this season, and has flourished, averaging 14.8 points per game.
Al Harrington of the Pacers, Desmond Mason of the Bucks and Manu Ginobili of the Spurs were also considered serious contenders for the Sixth Man Award.
Jamison had a big game in the Mavs' playoff opener, scoring 18 points in 20 minutes, but struggled in Game 2 due to tight hamstrings. The Mavs are down 2-0 to the Kings.

A silver lining in the dark cloud that has descended upon my world of late. Congratulations, AJ. A richly deserved honor.

I'm really happy for Antawn. He definitely deserved the award. And it couldn't have happened to a classier guy.

RE: Jamison to get Sixth Man Award
Manu might be the best sixth man, but he's started 38 games also. Jamison has been the best true 6th man all year.

RE:Jamison to get Sixth Man Award
Now remind me again: Why is he still a 6th man?
But congrats to the guy - it takes balls to give up a starting position and come play off the bench for a better team. I wish him the best.

Sorry for the second post, but, by the way... How about the hamstrings? Will he be able to play next game?
We need him a lot!!!

RE: Jamison to get Sixth Man Award
Manu is not a better sixth man than Jamison.
Jamison earned this and deserved it more than anyone in the league. Had the result been any different it would have been criminal.

RE: Jamison to get Sixth Man Award
I thought Ginobli would be awarded for it because the media rarely gives love to the Mavs.
Congrats to Jamison. He earned it.

RE:Jamison to get Sixth Man Award
I agree Dr, if they had voted Ginobli with all the pub that TNT was giving him, it would have been a crime to pass over someone with the numbers that Jamison had. 53.5% and 15 a game is just awesome for the minutes he has been given. And by the way, he deserves more minutes than 29/game in my mind.

It's the least that he deserves. Classy person, good player, but above all, disciplined with a bad call by his coach putting him as 6th man. No mattering that, he played with heart and professionalism, never protested and always talked well about his team, his coach, and his mates.
Hope he stays with the Mavs for long time.

RE:Jamison to get Sixth Man Award
It's not only that Jamison had better numbers & was such a class act all year, I would object to Ginobbli for the simple reason that he started WAY too many games for a 6th Man. I'm so glad Jamison got it despite all the hype the media is giving everyone else. I don't think he's really getting the credit he deserves in the media for his attitude this year.

RE:Jamison to get Sixth Man Award
Thank heaven...I was worried that Harrington or Manu might sneak into the award...and that would have been horrible. Tawn is the obvious choice....and a good fit on this team.
Thank you Tawn ....and congrats !

RE: Jamison to get Sixth Man Award
I think this has worked out nicely.....
the Mavs do not need Jamison to start....in fact they need him coming off the bench for bench scoring....
I must agree that during losing streaks I too have wanted Nellie to start Jamison and the Big 5 but in the long scheme of things it's best that Jamison comes off the bench.....
The Big 3 is all you really need scoring wise for starters which is why Walker should probably come off the bench too behind Jamison....
although I don't see that happening.....
