Mavs at Orlando GDT
I have no doubt that the Mavs will win this one with or without Josh.
Mavs win by 12
Mavs-Magic preview
6 p.m. today, TD Waterhouse Centre, FSNSW; ESPN-FM (103.3), KFLC-AM (1270 in Spanish)
09:17 PM CST on Thursday, March 30, 2006
By EDDIE SEFKO / The Dallas Morning News
Series: Mavs lead 1-0 this season; Magic leads 19-16 all-time
Key matchup
Dwight Howard vs. Dirk Nowitzki: The best young rebounder in the league, Howard has proved the Magic was right to pick him No. 1 out of high school in 2004. He has become the cornerstone for their future. Unfortunately, he's the only building block right now. He's only 20 and leads the team in rebounding (12.3, second in the NBA), field goal percentage (.526, tied for eighth) and double-doubles (52, second). One problem area: free throws. He was 3-of-9 Wednesday at Minnesota. Though Nowitzki is playing through fatigue, he'll test the defensive end of Howard's game.
Inside the Mavericks
Hoping for a better homecoming: Marquis Daniels is from Orlando, but he did not fare well against his hometown team last year, shooting just 36.4 percent (8-of-22) in two meetings. He has shot 19-for-44 (43.2 percent) in the last six games, averaging 7.7 points.
Briefly: The Mavs always seem to have trouble in Orlando, where they are 3-13. They have lost six of their last seven in the land of Disney. ... Shooting a lot of free throws is usually a good thing. But after shooting 41 in Cleveland and losing, the Mavs are 4-3 when making 38 or more trips to the line.
Inside the Magic
Dangerous foe: One look at its 28-44 record and it's easy to nod off against the Magic. But at home, Orlando has been very respectable of late, winning six in a row to push its home mark to 20-14. Coach Brian Hill has won 78 percent of his home games in two stints as Magic coach.
Briefly: Perpetually injured Grant Hill is out after sports hernia surgery. ... Detroit reject Darko Milicic has averaged 2.4 blocks since joining the Magic 20 games ago. ... Point guard Jameer Nelson improves as the game progresses. He scores 59.5 percent of his points after halftime and 33.2 percent in the fourth quarter.
__________________
At the end of each practice, the Mavs conduct a competition and ring a bell whenever someone makes 20 of 25 3-point attempts.
“He’s always around 23 or 24,” West said. “The bell rings every day.”

I expect no 3rd loss in a row and a healthy/secure comeback from JHo - recurrence is not accepted. Hold my breath....

I have faith in the Mavs. I'm no fair weathered fan and I'm with them be it during good times and bad. I believe they'll get this one and get ready for Denver.

Josh Howard returns. And Avery said on Norm yesterday that Griffin could be back as early as Sunday, Tuesday at the latest. So our Defense should improve, thankfully.
Harris is still out a week to 10 days.
I have no doubt we win this game.

As long as Howard can contribute, we will win.

Like Lana ending up in the hospital on any given episode of Smallville, this is a sure bet for the Mavs to win... I say 105-93.

I don't get how it says Howard is ORL's only building block. PG Jameer Nelson has done nicely this year:
24 years old
28.3 mpg
.482 FG percentage
.423 3-point percentage (11th in the NBA)
.780 free-throw percentage
4.8 assists per game
1.1 steals per game
14.2 points per game
from www.nba.com/playerfile/jameer_nelson/index.html
He's the reason ORL dumped S. Francis. Wish we had a young point guard with as much potential as Nelson does, oh wait we do, D. Harris...........

Not smooth defense so far.
Dirk used his body well against Jameer. He went straight up and didn't worry about Jameer blocking it. Wish he'sd do it more often (going straight up that is...)

What's up with FSN showing so many of the opposing teams replays but not the mavs. We've seen I think one replay on the last bad call that did NOT get called.

Josh gives us another two-way player. A little bit of everything. More rebounding, much better defense, more drive to the basket, more post up.
Hate that little arroyo..

When I was young and single, we used to joke around that if you ever went a few weeks without getting laid, you had to go out to a bar and pork the first drunk fat chick you saw.
We called them "slump-busters"
Thank God for fat drunk chicks

Dallas's offense has sucked ever since they went away from Dirk this entire second quarter.
