Stern Wants To Raise Age Minimum
March 13, 2008 - 4:52 pm

The Boston Globe -
In a brief interview with Time Magazine NBA commissioner David Stern admitted that he would like to increase the league's age minimum to 20 years, according to the Boston Globe.

The change could be made in 2011 when the current Collective Bargaining Agreement expires, but not before.

I can understand the difference between an 18-year-old and a 19-year-old (because of high school), but is there really much of a difference between a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old???

Might as well raise the minimum age to 25...

I see where this is going. After 20 is 21 and then, no longer will Stern have to deal with underage drinking. He also anticipates most of the guys who are capable of idiot-ing their talents away to do so by 21.

How he underestimates the human spirit. Silly midget.

Stern, even if the minimum age is 25, we will still break laws and dress like we live in rap videos!

need to make it 21. maybe that'll spare us a few years of watching a horrible team with 'the next MJ' on it every night for a while.

this would make college ball so much more exciting if these great freshmen had to stay two years.

I actually think it would be a good idea. This actually gives players the experience of staying with a college team for a while where they can learn more discipline and continue to mature.

This improves the players, it improves the NBA, and it improves the collegiate competition. I would be against going any higher than 20, though.

I agree with you completely.

NCAA improves its talent
NBA doesnt lose out on much talent since 18 and 19 year olds rarely produce

It also means that instead of playing highschool ball, and then just treading water for a year players would have to pick a team and really listen to the coach and be a team player since they'd be there for 2 years.
