Postgame Thread: Mavs punch Avery in his catfish mouth
21 points on 8-10 shooting and 10 rebounds... It's what he do.

Butler with 15 points on 7-11 shooting, Marion with 18 points on 8-10 shooting.
Dirk, Butler and Marion combined to score 54 points on 74% shooting tonight - that's some efficient basketball right there.

No, catfish mouth is probably the best description I've ever heard. I got a really good laugh out of that one. Just forgot to say so.

Barea - 13 assists and 6 points in 27 minutes.
Kidd - 8 assists and 6 points in 26 minutes.
I don't think there's any debate who our backup point guard is for the rest of the season, even after Roddy comes back...

Offensively sure at this stage yeah, Roddy has a lot of work to do. But Barea's defense is beyond terrible

Its been a little better this year, and having a good zone helps mask it. He's bad, but he's not as much as a turntable anymore. If he keeps getting double digit assists, he will keep getting minutes, even when Roddy comes back.

Brendan Haywood with 9 points and 8 rebounds (3 offensive) in 18 minutes - great effort by Big 'Wood tonight!

Dirk Nowitzki continued his torrid shooting as he made his first 8-of-9 shots and finished 8-for-10 from the floor on the night en-route to a team-high 21 points. Dirk also chipped in with 10 rebounds leading towards his 7th double-double of the season. The Mavericks are now 7-0 when Dirk records a double-double. He came in to tonight's game shooting a career-best 55.3 percent from the field, 80% will definitely help pad that number. Shooters usually rely on shooter's amnesia, Dirk is probably relying on an elephant-like memory to keep the hot shooting alive.
Nowitzki attributes the overall shooting performance this season to...

Anyone have a number on how many times Devin Harris has actually played when we face the Nets, post-trade?
(blah-blah-blah, I'll take Kidd, thanks...)

he played in both games last season, same for the previous year and the lone instance in the year he got traded. Other than tonight, he only had one game where he played less than 36 minutes in the matchups (the lone instance was 34 minutes).
I think you're just confusing the history with the recent stretch for them going up against each other.

Maybe the problem is that Devin Harris's performances are as memorable as the flavor of the Elmer's paste I ate back in preschool...

You and your pictures...
I was on the pro-trade side when it all went down, I haven't wavered for a second.
I'm surprised it hasn't gotten mentioned here yet, but I'm sure it was in the GDT. Yell-gate:
From my understanding, Barea was trying to get Dirk's attention to come back and help with the inbound pass on a possession but Dirk didn't hear Barea. They eventually got to a timeout and Barea spoke up.
Everything was fine in the locker-room, JJ praised Dirk, Dirk praised JJ. "Puerto Rico did a good job getting in to the lane...." etc.
If anything, JJ deserves credit. You would expect that kind of response from a point guard, he's supposed to be the leader on the court. If you see something wrong, you try to fix it. If you need to, get in the face and make it right for the next time forward. I remember reading people on here would be interested to see Chandler do that to Dirk for a missed assignment. How is this a different situation? Just because he's significantly shorter, has a much different role and etc, it doesn't change the theory. JJ has a critical role on the team in a critical position...he did his job.

I was wondering what all that was about, but the announcers really didn't go into it.
Great perspective from the front lines.
I like that Barea doesn't shy away from putting the spurs to Dirk - you're not much of a PG if you're too afraid to speak up, no matter who you're talking to (and it's not like Dirk has so much of an ego that it's a problem...)

Mavs looked great tonight. Marion was epic... again. Barea is turning into a real point guard out there. And with all the zone they're playing, he isn't a defensive liability. I think a lot of it is Barea who has started figuring things out, but a lot of it is the way Carlisle has been using him this year. Always putting Dirk in with him, playing a lot of zone when he's out there. Smart. Credit to them both.
Side note: Humphries is good. I wish we still had him.
