Street and Smith's top 10 NBA players ranked by position.
I disagree with most of this list but I posted it for 3 reasons. Dirk being ranked as the number 1 power fowards in the league, and Josh Howard being ranked as the 12th rookie in the league, and Jamison being ranked 3rd in small fowards. Couple of questions I have. Why is Finley ranked behind Stack, RIP, and Carter? Why is Nick Van Exel not on the list at all? Why is TD listed as a center? Why is he ahead of Shaq in the first place? We talk about the state of centers in this league but the small foward position is nothing flaterring. When did Zach Randolph become a small foward? Well anyway here is the list below. Dirk, Nash, and Jamison are ranked farely high. It has me even more pumped for the NBA season.:

RE: Street and Smith's top 10 NBA players ranked by position.
Marbury and Francis ahead of Nash? I don't think so.
Carter, Stackhouse, and Hamilton ahead of Finley? I don't think so.
Rating Duncan as a center would put Dirk at #1 among power forwards, but Duncan should be #1 for power forwards.

It's their fantasy ranking. Not their overall ranking.

You sure about that? That would explain alot. I was told these were players ranked by position. It would make alot more sense if it was fantasy points though.

RE: Street and Smith's top 10 NBA players ranked by position.
Funny thing that Raef says he is not a center and he is listed as the 13th best.
But if it was fantasy ratings it wouldn't be as funny.

Street and Smith's top 10 NBA players ranked by position.
That is totally off, but Ill take
13th best Center
1st Power Forward
3rd Small Forward
8th shooting guard
4th pount guard
and the 12th best rookie coming off the bench?
If it was that simple, then we would be a shoe-in for rings.
And Juwan Howrd for Power Forward? sheesh.

Street and Smith's top 10 NBA players ranked by position.
The lists do make some sense from a fantasy perspective, but a side note....
When will the illusion that Steve Francis is a top 5 PG fade away?????
I go:
Kidd
Nash
Marbury
Payton
After that, it doesn't really matter. Parker is better than Bibby, in my mind. Marbury REALLY stepped it up last year.

The fantasy ranking explanation clears up one minor problem I was having - no way is Baron Davis the 12th best pg.

RE: Street and Smith's top 10 NBA players ranked by position.
Why is Payton soo low? I dont think it is fantasy numbers, it wouldnt make sense that way. If that were the case, Ricky Davis would be 5th or so for SFs and not 17th (he averaged 21 ppg last year)

It's gotta be fantasy ratings (which I don't really understand).
Because I don't understand how fantasy play works, could someone explain something?
In what fantasy world does this make sense:
TJ Ford is a better point guard than Dwayne Wade
but
Dwayne Wade is a better rookie than TJ Ford.

I read Street and Smiths in the drug store the other day and I can say with certainty that these are their fantasy rankings.
Also, the frigging thing is so outdated for an NBA preview magazine...they were saying the Mavericks have stood pat all summer!

Anyone notice that Anthony is ahead of James in the rookie list. This list was just put out there to illicit a response.

I know! It was talking about another year of NVE and about small ball. I was bummed. For a preview of the next season, they sure put out the magazine prematurely.

Then why next to Jamison's name does it say Dallas Mavericks and not Golden State Warriors?

To have the magazine ready for a mid-Sep release date the magazine was probably at the printer by Aug 1st. The magazine has no chance to be timely any more. The internet is killing these types of magazines.

I used to read/buy several a year before the Internet became prevalent. Now, I usually just buy one -- The Sporting News NBA Season Preview, or whatever it's actually titled.

I don't understand fantasy rankings myself. If its fantasy rankings though how did they rank the rookies? Lebron and Carmelo have never played a NBA game.

That is why fantasy rankings are bogus. They rely too much on assumptions.

So they assume Nick won't be top 20 playing for the Warriors lol? I agree very bogus.

The total absence of NVE totally undermines the crediblilty of this list.

You could argue that duncan was the most dominant player in the game. After all he did beat shaq in the post a few times. To me Duncan is more of a center then really a power forward. I mean hes an excellent shot blocker, post player and rebounder.
As for why carter, rip and stack are ahead of Findawg. The two guard postion after T-Mac and Kobe becomes a whos who because so many of those guards have similar games.
The point guard positon is very puzzling mike bibby the fourth best pg, hes not even the best pg on his own team bobby is.
Francis is the more talented guard but Im not sure if hes a pont guard more of an off guard. If you slide him over to the two guard he becomes very formidable.
1) Kidd
2) Nash
3) Marbury
4) Payton
Everyone else.

What kills Payton is his contract. People assume that he is a 4.9 mill exception type player and he isn't. This guy is still a top 5 pg in this league. Hell i'd argue that he is the best pg in this league. He can dish out the ball, defend, and score. What other pg can do that as effeciently as Gary does?

That is awesome that Dirk is number one. Stephon is not better than Nash though, and Richard Hamilton or Jerry Stackhouse are not better than Fin. Raef made the countdown, nice!
