Donnie on 1190
Here is a second hand report of what Donnie said on the spare-ass Kieth Liebowitz show today. If anyone actually heard the interview, please elaborate. This is some very juicy stuff:
Quote:
Donnie was on the radio about an hour ago. Lebowitz asked him if the Mavs were looking to move up in the draft and Donnie said there was a "real good" chance of them doing so. Unfortunately Lebowitz was more interested in talking than listening and didn't follow up. He also asked what they were currently doing in the war room and Donnie said they were going over film of Delfino and Pietrus. It seems logical to review tape of Carlos because he could be around at 29??? but Pietrus???

I thought I heard Donnie say, you could almost bet on the Mavs doing something in the draft, whatever that means. I heard him say they were looking at film but I didn't take that to mean much because everyone knows, watching film doesn't count as scouting. Real basketball people have to be in the gym, when players are actually working out, and be seen, before it counts as "doing their job."

The fact that he said he was looking at michael pietrius makes me wonder. The Knicks have the #9 pick and are shopping latrell sprewell. This makes me think a NVE, #29, and someone for latrell and the #9 is being thought off. I'd definetly do it. Any other thoughts.

RE: Donnie on 1190
The Knicks would love to get their hands on Raef. They were hot and heavy after him when we traded for him two years ago. I have heard that the Knicks are trying to trade up to nab TJ Ford. So I wonder whether a NYK/DAL/TOR three way or a NYK/DAL/MIA three way has been talked about.

RE: Donnie on 1190
ahhh...the infamous three-way. If it's got to be NYK/DAL and a choice fo Toronto and Miami, I'd take Miami. Toronto's got all that SARS stuff going on, but in Miami, it's all about southbeach...and three-ways.

I am not sure how the Mavs could get up high enough for Peitrus. Lottery picks are gold at this time of year. I don't think we have enough to offer.
I could see up possible picking up another late first by trading AJ to a team and getting back a bad contract, but I am not sure.

I think Chicago may be in need of a point guard

Jay will be a good backup for next season in a wheelchair.

Sprewell is a much better defender than Nick is. But again , will #9 make take us to the next level.
Secondly , we are trading Nick and Raef away which leaves us basically junk in tariq and old avery out of Denver trade.

AND Spree and the #9. Just because they didn't play for Denver doesn't mean they aren't a result of the Denver trade. NVE is indirectly a result of Etan Thomas, Courtney Alexander, Loy Vaught, et. al.

I did not think it that way. Now that I see it that way it makes sense. Bottomline is this should be another Stoopid trade.

RE: Donnie on 1190
I had honestly forgotten that 1190 was a sports station..
oh well, thank you for the recap david, madape, etc..
So, what does everyone think about the mavs moving up in the draft?...obviously, there's only so many moves you can make..will the mavs move up in the draft? Go after kidd? Go after mourning/malone/brown? etc. Go after a SF?
or, all of the above and see what pans out? Obviously, they have a bit more on their mind other than seeing what pans out...but, you've gotta see who bites before you can take the next step in certain instances
