Ok..so, I'm gay... American Idol talk
I just thought I'd out myself right now. I am officially gay as a parade. Why am I gay? Well, I set my TIVO to record Fringe.. Obviously, it's on my season pass. Well, that's not gay in and of itself, I suppose.. But, it caught the last singer on one of the American Idol episodes. His name is Adam or somesuch. He's a dude, of course. But, he'd almost make a good looking girl. Heaven knows he wears enough makeup..
Anyway, whatever song he sang..something about a Mad World or somesuch was absolutely brilliant. This is coming from someone that believes that music is highly overrated in general. But, he has the voice of a cross dressing angel. I suppose that in and of itself would only make me partially gay. But, here's the kicker.. I actually went on youtube to check out some of his other performances.
Hey, I'll admit.. I've watched a little Idol in the past. This guy is good. Yeah, he can be freaky at times, but he is damn good.

So is my boss. He keeps playing it in his computer. Honestly, I liked that version, but I still like Gary Jules version better, maybe because it seems to me Jules is less of a singer than this guy is, and it lends itself better to the song. But still a very good version (I do not watch American Idol or look up any of their artists on youtube).

I'm rooting for Anoop, but he doesn't seem to be doing so well. I mean, if I were watching the show that is...
And, it wouldn't be gay to put a wig on a man and pretend they're a woman... how could that be gay if you're pretending they're a woman?

Okay...So I have to out myself...I'm also Gay...but I personally DO NOT like Adam!!!
The Gay part is being hooked on AI.
I recall last season, we were watching an episode and then I looked around the living room...it was me, my 2 sons and a couple of friends from school...No wife, no girlfriends...just 6 guys watching American Idol...
So I had to ask the question..."Gay or Not Gay"...the overwhelming response...GAY!!!
Next thing, I'm probably some freak for actually liking the 16 year old singer...I would love to see her win this year!!!
Okay...there goes my Gay moment...by the way, to add to a disturbing event...
My kid...a Senior in HS...is participating in the "Powder Puff" game...the girls are playing football and the guys are taking the sideline to cheer...tonight is dress rehersal...the guys are wearing Daisy Duke's and a shirt tied up at the waist-line...he tried the stuff on last night and I about freaked!!! I know it's perfectly safe and I understand the theme, but it honestly grossed me out!!!
I'll be glad when this Powder Puff stuff is done...of course, his girlfriend is one of the girls playing football, so I can stomach it a little more...
The things we do for our ladies!!!

Murph, your post above is precisely why I adore you! You always make me smile. And I tend to agree with you. Adam is pretty darn talented! He is also pretty darn odd. My favorites are Kris and Danny. Kris isn't as talented as some of the others, but his voice is so smooth. I can't believe how well he did singing Donna Summers' "She Works Hard For the Money" last night. It was good stuff! And Danny sings with so much soul. My husband has a man crush on Anoop. I know; it's weird, and kinda gay.

Obviously Jules version is way better than some American Idol scrub. That's why one of them has a CD and the other is on a lame reality show.

This is a pretty dumb statement. Obviously a lot of people on Idol aren't talented but some of them are very talented. On the other side, a lot of people who have CDs are very talented and some are horrible.

I haven't watched an episode of AI in a few years but I youtubed this guy about a week ago (when my friend suggested I should) and his versions of Mad World and Tracks of my Tears are awesome.

No, THIS is a pretty dumb statement if you think some guy on AI is anywhere near as talented as Gary Jules. I wouldn't call ANYONE that came out of AI "very talented". Kelly Clarkson is ok, but that's about it. It's like saying just because this guy is trying out for a NBA team, it doesn't mean he's not more talented than a guy already on the team from the get-go. 99% of the time, yeah, it does.

"Talent" and "the ability to sell records" aren't the same thing. Brittany Spear's ain't successful because she can sing.
In fact, I would say the great majority of people that have musical talent probably aren't famous recording artists.
There are just too many variables involved besides singing ability.

I guess I was more referring to the comparison at hand, with Mr. Jules. I'm talking actual musicians, not pop princesses and junk rappers (although some are good). Point being, if they were talented enough, they'd have a CD. Even small time Indie bands/artists usually have a CD.

I'm sure a lot of people who have records aren't very talented...but Gary Jules' cover of Roland Olazabal's "Mad World" is the tits...and while this kid Adam did a decent impression of it, he came nowhere near the real deal. He should have covered the Tears for Fears version.

That's fair enough... that's just not how I read what you said. It was way more of an absolute.
The Jules cover of Mad World is one of my favorites, btw.

Anyone can buy studio time and make a CD. You don't need talent. You need dollars.
There is plenty of talent out there that has never been discovered and I bet there are plenty of people who can sing that aren't actual "musicians".
The correlation you are making is absurd.
And if everyone who is talented already has a CD, then there would never be any new CD's...because the talented people already have them.
It was a ridiculous statement, and you should just admit it.

Allison has the 'IT' factor. I like her personality and she appears to have the talent and marketability to develope into a true Performance Star!!!
Seems many on here like that Adam character...but I just can't stand the guy!!!
Like some, I wish they would quit running over, it really messes up my DVR of Fringe!!!

That's hilarious considering Adam has a ton of legitimate performance credentials considering he was on Broadway. He is definitely the most polished and comfortable idol contestant I've ever seen while on the show. I watched the video of 'Black and White' and I don't think any other contestant could have pulled that off.
You can't stand him because he's gay... you bigot.

Please get over yourself...
I don't like Adam or his performances because I simply don't like them.
I listen to Queen and Judas Priest...with two very well known Gay connections.
Amazing, how some folks react...is it not possible to have an opinion on things without somem folks placing some label on it.
I voted for McCain, some people called me a racist...
I like Allison over Adam, so now I'm a bigot...
Since when did we become a nation or even a cyber community where members could not share their own opinions in a respectful way without being attacked in a written forum by some others within the community?

You're a fool if you think that people won't take your past opinions into account when making judgments upon your new ones.
If someone were to ask me before this thread as made "Who doesn't like Adam Lambert" I would have guessed you right away. It's especially suspicious when you say you are looking for a "performer" and that's what he is good at.

Mods, please move this thread to the Political Arena - obviously Murph didn't have the foresight to recognize the vast political implications of American Idol...

We are both entitled to our own opinion...again, I prefer Allison.
From past shows, I liked Daughtry, Cook...there's another guy that I can't remember Bo Bice or something like that.
I was also a big fan of Mandissa!!! She was great performing some old songs by Heart!!!
Now I didn't start watching until Season 4...to me this year is the worst out of season 4-8...but hey, it's just an opinion.
To me Adam is someone I would vote for as a way to promote 'Votefortheworst' - nothing specific, I just don't like hearing or seeing the guy.
... Good luck with the rest of the season...

I took a walk around the world to
Ease my troubled mind
I left my body laying somewhere
In the sands of time
I watched the world float to the dark
Side of the moon
I feel there is nothing I can do, yeah
I watched the world float to the
Dark side of the moon
After all I knew it had to be something
To do with you
I really don't mind what happens now and then
As long as you'll be my friend at the end
If I go crazy then will you still
Call me Superman
If I'm alive and well, will you be
There holding my hand
I'll keep you by my side with
My superhuman might
Kryptonite
You called me strong, you called me weak
But your secrets I will keep
You took for granted all the times I
Never let you down
You stumbled in and bumped your head, if
Not for me then you would be dead
I picked you up and put you back
On solid ground
If I go crazy then will you still
Call me Superman
If I'm alive and well will you be
There holding my hand
I'll keep you by my side with my
Superhuman might
Kryptonite
//Oh whoa whoa//

There's a slim possibility that I'm wrong, but I think you hit the nail on the head in bold there. You realize that people can 'not like' something only because they WANT to not like something... we have that capability. I'm guessing you took one look at the guy it was over for you.
I guess I don't really care that you don't like him... I care that you're a racist, homophobic douche.

If you care, then perhaps you'll apprecit the fact that I am NOT a racist nor a homophobic douche.
I've stated in the past, that I've made statements in gest that I have done my fair share of apologizing for...the past is just that, in the past.
Now we move foreward.
In my opinion a racist takes actions against another race. They either hire or not hire based on race. They either vote or don't vote based on race. I have never done either...I actually get to know the individuals and take action based on the individual.
You however, don't know me, yet you are so quick to judge me and label me...that is actually what a racist would do. But I doubt seriously that you are a racist, however your statements are one of a racist.
.........
Dang it, there you go...you baited me into a political discussion...this thread is about having a good time with American Idol. If you want to talk politics on this, then start a thread in that forum...leave this to what its for...
You like Adam, I don't like Adam...nuff said.
So what do you think about Allison?
I happen to like her singing and her on-stage presence. She comes across as genuine and true to herself and the music.
To me Adam comes off fake...but again, it's just an opinion...no big deal, the world will not end by disagreeing on AI contestants.
Most likely Adam will be a finalist, cool for him and his fans!!!
Seems to me that you are afraid of others having a different opinion than you...why?

I promise you if we polled the board right now you would be incorrect.
Also, you're trying to tell me that some new indie group is more "musically" successful or talented than Adam when he was the lead in Wicked in LA? You know, the "smash hit" musical?
He's doing American Idol because he's good enough to be a sure-fire finalist and it's easy, fast publicity. He already made it in the theater world and has been mentioned, before Idol, as a finalist for a role on Broadway...but I guess you don't need talent for that. At least, not as much talent as you need to start an indie group.

I'll agree with one point...Adam has talent!!!
All of these contestants, getting to this point HAVE talent.
At this stage its about the fans selecting who they like best, and for me, he's my least favorite...but its personal preference...kinda like Heavy Metal over Country & Western, or RAP over POP.
At least fluid.forty.one and I can agree on something...Adam's got talent. Do you agree with me?

I've not heard any of them sing, but the office buzz is killing me. Seriously people, who cares? I honestly think that show is rigged so whatever outcomes creates the most shock and awe will be the outcome.
If I hear the words "Lambert" or "Kris" one more time today I think I might jump out the window. (of course I would have to get a glass cutter first)
