Doncic feels the Play In tournament is unfair
https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/m...point-of-that/
"I don't understand the idea of the play-in [tournament]," Doncic said. "You play 72 games to get in the playoffs, then maybe you lose two in a row and you're out of the playoffs. I don't see the point of that."

Agreed.
I can understand if an 8/9 seeds are within a game of each other. But a 7 having to defend their position, and a possible 10 seed given the opportunity I dont agree with. Its completely arbitrary.

I could see it being unfair if there was a bigger gap, but we're only 3.5 games ahead of the 10th seed.
The problem I see is that it is going to make it even less likely that we see any exciting upsets. The teams at the bottom are going to come into the playoffs more tired and maybe even injured while the top 4 teams are going to get more rest in addition to HCA.

IDC about the play in. It's unfortunate if you are 7 or 8th but it's not like they just announced this. Cuban even voted for it.
I'm more interested in getting the best 16 teams in the playoffs. One day they will get rid of the conference seedings and go with the best 16 records. What's not fair is missing the playoffs in your conference but being 10 games better than the 8th seed in the other conf.

That's possible - but on the other hand, the play-in could weed out the teams that are injured and/or slumping - so you may have a healthier, 'hot' team move on.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ormous-mistake
Cuban told ESPN's Tim MacMahon that "in hindsight, this approach was an enormous mistake," citing concerns over the NBA's compacted schedule.
He continued:
"I get why the NBA is doing it. But if we are going to be creative because of COVID, we should go straight up 1-20 and let the bottom 4 play in. This is the year particularly to do it since the 10 games cut [from the normal 82-game schedule] were in conference.
"The worst part of this approach is that it doubles the stress of the compressed schedule. Rather than playing for a playoff spot and being able to rest players as the standings become clearer, teams have to approach every game as a playoff game to either get into or stay in the top 6 since the consequences, as Luka said, are enormous. So players are playing more games and more minutes in fewer days."

I can understand Cuban's frustration, because the Mavs would now be 4th in the East. That said, if they don't start playing a lot better, they're not going to get past a play-in game.

Cuban suggested it.
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/...s-nba-playoffs
Quote:
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has suggested a plan to the NBA league office that would include all 30 NBA teams playing five to seven regular-season games before a play-in tournament to determine the final two playoff seeds, he told ESPN on Tuesday.
Cuban considers it a must for all 30 teams to participate in the resumption of the NBA season, tentatively planned to take place at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, because of the financial impact of fulfilling local television contracts.
In Cuban's proposal, the top 10 teams from each conference would qualify for the postseason and be reseeded based on record. There would be two play-in matchups -- either single games or a best-of-three series -- pitting seeds 17 vs. 20 and 18 vs. 19. The winners would advance to play the 15th and 16th seeds for the final spots in the playoff bracket.

anyone else noticed he mentioned something about resting players before the playoffs?
The Mavs have been resting players all year and even had two week break doing the snow storm and All-Star break.
They are in the position they are in right now because of players getting rest breaks.
Meanwhile a guy like Jokic has played every game this year for Denver.
So go Figure

Weird to bring up Denver in an argument against resting guys.
Jamal Murray has had similar recurring knee pain and played through it, only to go down with an ACL tear last night.

Was watching the Jump today and Kendrick Perkins was like "Stop Whining"
Take the regular season more serious and you wouldn't have to worry about it.
Brian Windhorst then questioned if the Mavs were the 10th seed right now if Cuban would feel the same way LOL

I can't stand Kendrick Perkins. He spent an entire career whining and sucking. Idk how he has any value to his opinion by anyone. How did the sports media world get so desperate that they started asking him anything.
The play in is just for this season. Deal with it. Imo, Luka should have temporarily avoided that comment.

4th thru 11th has to worry about play in not just Mavs. There's not a ton of separation there. Sure, we are winding down and we have a picture of who the contenders are but it's not like Mavs are the only ones in any danger if you take expectations out of it.
Itnis what it is this season and I hope none of thr players say anything else about it tbh. We knew this was going to be an odd situation and winning is always the remedy.

Cuban definitely wouldn’t feel this way if they were sitting in the 10 spot. It’s annoying... very self serving from Cuban.
