Default Should the Mavs sign Courtney Sims?

anyone think this wouldn't be that bad of a sign, a ten day contract?

Try not to post misleading thread titles. "Mavs sign Courtney Sims?" implies that you have some information that they may be thinking about it.

The dude's D-league stats are mind-blowingly impressive - 23.8 PPG, 12.5 RPG, 5.2 BPG, 64% FG, +33.00 efficiency at 37.8 MPG...

You never know if his game will translate into the NBA, but with 14 men on the roster, I see no reason why we shouldn't at least try him out on a 10-day contract... He could very well be exactly what this team lacks...

Does he belong to someone else? I don't see much downside...we sorta need some d-league guys anyway.

I don't think you can sign players to ten-day contracts until sometime in January.

The Iowa Energy is affiliated with the Bulls and Suns.

But he is on neither the Bulls nor Suns roster, so he is a free agent. It couldn't hurt, I mean to put up numbers he does, he has to be getting the minutes as well as putting in the effort to get it done.

Damn, the dude had a triple double (pts, rebounds and blocks) on November 28. No matter what league you are in, 11 blocked shots is legit.

heh. I might even be able to get a TD in that league, FTW. Ok, besides the Chinese Midget Basketball League...

That is correct link

What is a 10-day contract?
A 10-day contract is just that, a player contract which lasts ten days (or three games, whichever comes later). A team may sign a player to two 10-day contracts in one season (they may or may not be consecutive). After the second 10-day contract, the team can only retain the player by signing him for the remainder of the season. A team can't have more 10-day contracts than they have players on their Inactive List. Ten-day contracts are available to be used starting January 5 (or the first business day thereafter) each season.

Here is an interesting read on owning a D league team, and notice the tatics of our rival Spurs.

Those stats are impressive.

Although obviously you'd want to keep a player for a longer look, you can sign him to what is effectively only a one-day contract right now, if you really wanted to.

The only reason for 10-day contract provisions is the fact that beginning in January, you can't sign a player to a non-guaranteed deal, meaning you are on the hook for the full term of any contract you offer.
