Sefko doesn't think Dirk will play on Sunday
http://mavsblog.dallasnews.com/archi...or-sunday.html
He's listed as questionable.
The non-Dirks put forth a good effort tonight, but could they even make a game of it on Sunday?
It seems Cleveland has had some close calls lately, but they're obviously way better than the Rockets.

Man, thats tough. It would be a tough game even with Dirk.
It seemed Kidd almost took it as a personal challenge to win without Dirk tonight, he was playing so great. But it would take a superhuman effort to win agianst The Lebrons.
I still think Dirk will be back, hes a tough guy.

I don't understand how a gash could keep him up... can't they just wrap it up?
I'm tired and I just realized that it would be tough to shoot with stitches in your shooting arm elbow.. still, if there's anyway the doctors can make it work, Dirk is a warrior and will play.

It was a collision underneath the basket. Dirk ended up with Carl Landry's teeth in his elbow.

It looked painful on both ends. I'm sure their worry right now is preventing infection. Why this would keep him out a while I don't know. But every time the Mavs are nervous about Dirk is a cause for some concern.

The non-Dirks would have won tonight... if the NBA had let them.
If the NBA lets them, they'll make a game of it on Sunday.

That's what Landry gets for being a 6'2 center. Dirk pwned him.
Come back soon Dirk

Word is that there may be a bone bruise on Dirk's shooting arm, as well as the fact that he's essentially being treated for a bite which is always a series of antibiotics to firebomb any bacteria in the area. Thats all in addition to the fact that he had chips of Landry's teeth embedded in his arm, some of which had to be surgically removed.
I'm sure Landry got the worse end of this, but Dirk is the MVP so far and definitely this team's one player that turns a .400-.500 team into a .700 team

I would think it would be closer to .300-.400. I cannot imagine this team approaching .500 without Dirk. They simply wouldn't be able to score enough. They would be one of the worst offensive teams in the NBA.

True true. The team is top 10 defensively with or without Dirk but they have no consistent scoring without Dirk. It's a huge burden on Dirk which is a concern for an 82 game season but Dirk makes the offense easier for everyone and provides a consistent scoring option.

I know missing Dirk is HUGE, but we still have Terry, Howard, Marion, JJB. Dallas still has a decent amount of scorers on the team. If our shots are falling I still think we can score a lot of points. I wouldn't give up hope yet...
Btw, Cleveland scored just 85 points against the Bucks yesterday. Who knows, maybe we won't need to score a ton to beat them tomorrow...

I am ultimately worried that Dirks shooting is going to be WAY OFF if and when he returns.

IF dirk returns? You know he's had season-ending sprains and come back within 3 weeks? No one comes back faster than the German.

I am not sure they are top 10 defensively without dirk, I really do not. He contributes so much more team defensively than imo folks realize. He is 7 foot out there, he does grab 8 rpg and even currently he's to 20 in bpg. Not to mention that without dirk jet/jjb will have to play even more minutes I expect.

in a way, i almost hope he doesn't play and lets his arm heal up. odds are even with a banged up dirk in the game we won't win tomorrow. they already embarrassed us twice last year and once this year. just let everyone else get the chance to build more chemistry with dirk out of the game. i'm sure we've all noticed that as soon as dirk comes out of the game the whole team falls apart because they don't know what to do without him. maybe a game or two without dirk could help in the long run.

Howard is a fine #2 option. Marion is a fine #4 option. Terry is an inconsistent jumpshooter.. probably a guy that you'd like to have as a #3 option. JJB is a decent second scorer off the bench. I'm sorry, but all that and a Jason Kidd gets you a terribly inefficient offense that can't put the ball in the bucket from within 15 feet very often at all. Guys such as Howard and JET rely heavily on Dirk taking pressure off of them with his offensive abilities. Can you imagine the impact that it would have on their efficiency if defenses suddenly started concentrating on them because Dirk was no longer on the court? None of those guys can even remotely consistently carry an offense.

Quite quite true.
Dirk is THIRD in the NBA in defensive win shares.
The Mavs give up 16 more points per 100 possessions with Dirk on the bench.
The defense in fact suffers heavily from a lack of Dirk.

If those guys didn't play with Dirk regularly, they wouldn't be considered scorers.

We've seen what happens when we don't have Dirk playing Cleveland.
We get beat 96-66.
Granted, Kidd, JET, Josh, and Marion were also sitting. But still, while with Dirk I would feel somewhat confident about this game, without him I have very little hope of preventing another multi-game losing streak.

If the gash was on his left arm, I wouldn't worry, but considering its on his right arm...yeah, that makes me wonder. Whatever, as long as Dirk can draw fouls, he can hit those free throws left handed. And he doesn't need his right to finish when he's at the rim.
