Howard misses game due to hangover?
Stole this out of the Howard appreciation thread..
Quote:
– Josh Howard's exit from the Mavericks went from amicable to a bit testy after he made his debut in Washington on Wednesday night.
Howard said after his first game as a Wizard that he looks forward to being able to "stick it to the Mavs" regarding the trade after six-plus seasons in Dallas.
The Mavericks took the high road, with owner Mark Cuban saying only, "I wish Josh nothing but the best."
The juicy piece of irony is that Howard ended up in Washington, which may well have been the site where he had the beginning of the end, according to several Maverick sources.
They say Howard had a long night of partying on Jan. 19, the night after the Mavericks had won in Boston and less than 24 hours before playing the Wizards.
The team officially said he missed the game against Washington on Jan. 20 with a stomach illness. But sources said team officials could not deny that it was a self-inflicted game off.
Howard's agent, Jeff Schwartz, did not comment on the incident.
Howard, meanwhile, didn't mince words when talking about the Mavericks after Wednesday's win over Minnesota.
"I became the one that they thought was the problem," Howard told The Washington Post. "The one thing that I can say is unfair is, the guy that came back from injury, came back early, still came out and gave you positive minutes, and you trade him. It's that simple. If anything, you can say that's hard feelings. But other than that, it's a business."

All my appreciation went out the window on one statement. It didn't help that he was unprofessional but now bitter as well. He got what he deserved. No bitterness should be there.

well he's gonna have to wait till next year to "stick it to" us. I thought we had one more game against the Wiz before season's end, turns out I'm wrong.

Looks like this may not go away quietly...

remember when there was speculation of a Howard-for-Artest swap, and a lot of people on this board thought it was a bad idea because Artest was a knucklehead?
One Josh Howard jersey for sale...cheap.

Alcohol is very rough on the body. Imo it makes you more injury prone and hurts recovery time if you drink a lot.

At least he cared enough about being a Mav to be pissed that he is no longer one. I think anyone who gets fired after 6 years on a job is gonna be a little miffed. In today's sports world, you aren't supposed to act like stuff like trades hurt, but players are still human. I just hope he stays in the East. The last thing we need is for him to end up in a Lakers or Spurs uni. Once he gets healthy, he could become a dangerous player again.

So Cuban was on Dan Patrick today and he implied this didn't happen. He didn't deny that Josh may have stayed out late, and that he didn't feel good, but he talked to him that day and didn't think he was "hungover" exactly.
Cuban said he was disappointed that he didn't make a bigger effort to get himself going that day (i.e. show up early and get fluids). He said lots of players show up for work when they don't feel great.
He said there were two players the previous year that DID miss games because of being hungover....one was traded, the other one was "put out to pasture".

The latter is Shawne Williams. The former...not sure. Singleton? Doubt it was George or Stack. Who knows, though.

My guess would be...Wright? Maybe? Did he ever miss any games? Eh, probably not. Bass wasn't traded, though he did have that weird DNP mid-way through the season.

That knee injury Josh had? It was his ACL. Sucks for him...
http://www.dallasbasketball.com/fullColumn.php?id=2623
Quote:
Terrible news for Josh Howard, the former Mavericks standout traded to Washington in the Butler/Haywood deal: J-Ho left Monday’s Wizards-Bulls game late in the first quarter after injuring his left knee. … and he’s not coming back this season.
With 4:24 remaining in the initial period of an eventual Wizards win, Howard caught a downcourt pass but his left knee appeared to buckle as he received the ball. Josh – who has in recent years had injury issues with his ankle and wrist – was helped to the locker room. The Wiz initially reported the injury as a sprained knee.
But moments ago, Washington coach Flip Saunders reported that Josh sustained a torn ACL and will be out for the year.

Wow, Karma's a b!tch, but I do wish him a full recovery, injuries are not a fun part of the game. Too bad it occurred in a contract year.

My guess is Green is the one put out to pasture and Shawne Williams was the one they traded (although you could also say that he was put out to pasture last year too)
