GDT- Mon 19 Preseason: Mavs vs Cavs (Televised)
John Jenkins is averaging 20.3 points per game — fourth-highest in the NBA this this preseason — on 48.9 percent shooting in 29.2 minutes of action. Let's see if he can keep it rolling.

won't play
McGee - still nursing his leg
Williams - hamstring strain, out all preseason
Ndour - stress fracture/reaction in leg
JJB - taking the day off, otherwise healthy
Parsons - no timetable
Matthews - no timetable, but perhaps opening day
available
Dirk - will play
Powell - first game back from elbow
Felton - hammy strain is better

At least Jenkins is locked in for a few years so we don't have risk losing him to FA if he has a break through season. He just seems like a guy who understands what Rick is selling.

..and he can shoot. If we are going to have any success with a team that can't rebound or defend, we're going to need shooters
if he doesn't make the roster, I will be very upset. Dude has earned his spot.

Both teams looking for their 1st preseason win... Mavs 0-4, Cavs 0-6.

Too many pointless preseason games... Other than that Dirk looks to be in top shape.

Jenkins will start until Wes is ready. After that I can see him be 6th man.

I know it's pre-season and we'll sign guys for 82+ games, but Sammy already hurt his leg. That, after playing slower than Dirk and 100% less talented

I wonder if Dirk plays in the 2nd half? He already has 10 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists in 17 minutes. Not bad for a preseason game... Hitting his shots too.

Has Jenkins been going to the line this frequently in all the games? Also how has his defense been so far? (yeah I havent been keeping up with the pre-season too much :I)

Well the one positive I will say about the injuries is it opened the door a crack for Jenkins, who promptly kicked the thing off it's hinges.

I defend JA a lot but man... I rly do hope when the games count and we are healthy that his shot starts falling. I hope he never handles the rock either. Doesn't look fully engaged sometimes on D. He looked like he took his defense/focus to another level when he guarded Durant. Since then it's more flashy than anything IMO.

Weird. I saw the game and I saw him actually playing really well. Then again, I only paid attention to his play when he was playing with a traditional lineup and starting/near-starting caliber players. In the first half he was really pretty good. He's still learning about rookie mistakes (hand in the cookie jar, trying to draw fouls on jumpers, etc.), but he was good when given a good supporting cast.

Jenkins had 12 FTAs in the last 4 games combined, 16 tonight.

No I agree with you 100% that he looks better with real players around him, especially considering his strengths and weaknesses. Which is why I hope he looks better in games that matter with a healthy roster where he won't be asked to do things outside of his comfort zone. He still plays good defense I just thought his best D was played vs Durant personally and he(understandably) seemed more locked in for that match-up. Still love the pick, I just sound like a broken record saying over and over *wait for the starters* but that seems to be the theme of this team atm so it is unavoidable I guess. Still getting his jersey the first game I go to this year.
As much as I want the regular season to start I wish we had more time for guys to get healthy.
Gonna give a quick mention of Felton too. Thought he played solid tonight. I mean it was against dellavablowya but I'm pretty critical of Felton and he at least looked solid tonight.

He can't afford to be a poor rebounder on a team that desperately needs them. He is bulky, has size, and is athletic enough that there should be no excuse for grabbing 0 rebounds.
Otherwise, he was OK offensively. Just wasn't hitting his threes.

Mejri with 6pts, 8rrb, 2blk in only 17 min.
I'm intrigued and hopefully the Mavs are too

If McGee gets healthy, then I'm less vomitous about the idea of him, Pachulia and Merj manning the 5. I'm ready to see Dalembert get cut as nothing seems to have changed with him. Not in shape, injury-prone, and never gives full effort is the name of his game. You can always stick Powell in at the 5 if need be. And I wouldn't cut Powell over Daly.

Face it, the first 20-30 games are going to be crap anyway. Basically a second pre-season as we try to work in three starters. I wouldn't be too worried about 5-10 games while McGee rehabs.

My 2 cents:
Likes:
- Powell´s defense and rebounding was awesome
- Mejri was just what we needed; if he doesn´t make the roster, I´d be pissed.
- Dirk looks extremly slim and in shape (and it shows - his shooting and defense was good)
- Felton had an heck of a game (did he make any mistake)
- with Powell and Evans the alley-oops are back (a great sign)
- Man, Evans hitting threes on a consistent basis would give RC a lot of options (shot looks decent
- overall rebounding (at least in the first half)
Mehs:
- Harris did not play well at all (I really hope, RC plays Felton over him, when he has games, in which he shoots like that)
- Powell´s shot seems to be broken (Might have to do with the elbow-injury; let´s hope he gets his stroke back)
Overall: I think it´s very encouraging, how things have evolved during the preseason. Who could expect that Mejri and Jenkins could contribute like they do? And Dirk seems to be in great shape, that´s very important, if Parsons, D-Will and Wes miss more time.

Boom. this. Good to have a guy who can fill it up if Mathews or Parsons isn't getting it done offensively. I want this guy locked up for a while, we can not afford to have this potential slip thru our grasp for the future.

JA looks really good in transition but very raw in the half court.
My biggest concern is playing out of control at times which should get better with maturity and as his role becomes more clearly defined.
