Barea for Ilyasova + 2nd
Now that all the fun is over, the Mavericks might as well start tweaking their team to maximize what they've got. No low-post scoring threat; no all star shooting guard--but also no back up power forward.
Milwaukee has four power forwards, our old friend Dwight Gooden, Ersan Ilyasova, Luc Mbah a Moute and rookie Larry Sanders. Milwaukee doesn't have a back up point guard, so:
Jose Juan Barea for Ersan Ilyasova and a 2nd round draft choice.
Iyasova averaged about 10 points and 6 rebounds in about 23 minutes per game, he works hard and ought to be capable of backing up Dirk and maybe taking a few minutes at the 3 in a big line up or the 5 in a small line up. He has two years left on his contract and earns a little more than J.J., which is why I hope to get a 2nd from Milwaukee in the deal.
J.J. should be an adequate back up guard for Milwaukee, and Dallas may as well commit to playing Beaubois as the back up. In an emergency, Jason Terry could play the point--after all he was the point guard on the 2006 championship team.

I say "no" to any trade involving Barea - he & Dirk are the cornerstones of this franchise!

Haven't you all got the message? We didn't get King James, so it's time to rebuild. Even Barea is expendable--heck, I'd trade Dirk too if it wasn't for that pesky no trade clause.

Dude, are you kidding? Ilyasova for Barea will never happen. Ilyasova is a good player right now, and has the potential to be even better. Barea...well, he's a backup point guard who may be out of the league in 4 years when he loses his step. Through in a first rounder on our side and that's when it might be a reasonable trade (not saying I'd do that).

I have no idea who this Artest is.
The only thing I can put 2 and 2 together on is Corey Maggette has essentially fallen out of the rotation with the Bucks and the Mavs have been interested in Maggette in the past. That's all I've got, not a rumor, not inside info...just total speculation.

Ersan Ilyasova for Barea?...I would do this trade in a heartbeat and if the Mavs need a back up PG they could sign Antonio Daniels or something.

It's my understanding that AD is out for several weeks with a hand injury.

it's really hard to fathom what combination of players would work between these 2 teams. if the trade is for Maggette it seems the Mavs would have to be getting something else in return to be taking on such a bad contract.
our trade exception can only be used in a 1 for 1 swap. seems like it would be tough to find matching salaries if it's a Stevenson for Maggette swap. unless it's Caron for Maggette + talent or draft pick- that we could then flip in another trade. that doesn't really make much sense either though. Caron's playing well and the team is rolling. and it's cashing in one of the teams best chips for little or no upgrade.
this rumour just doesn't seem to make much sense.

DoJo is looking like a more realistic option at the point...there will be a MMB piece in the coming days covering it with insight from the man himself.

I hope it's clear that I was being sarcastic when I said above I knew who Daniel Artest was.

A quick google search and some skimming of his twitter account makes me believe that Daniel Artest is, in fact, Ron's brother. So while I'm not really sure why Ron Artest's brother would have information about a possible trade going down between two teams that he neither roots for nor knows players on, but he's more than just some random dude off the streets.

I'd sooner believe a random dude off the street than Ron Artest's brother.

An upside to Maggette:
he drives more than he shoots now, and he gets to the line alot.
This serves several purposes. It helps get Dallas in the bonus earlier, and it gets us higher percentage shots on the weak side after we swing it. Plus Maggette is a solid rebounder and defender for his size...athletically, he's still close to elite.
