The first Baylor player has officially defected, a week before classes are set to begin and members of the unsettled team must get serious about decisions on where to enroll.
Baylor signee Tyrone Nelson has committed to attend Prairie View A&M, his sister, Jolanda Nelson, said Monday morning. Tyrone Nelson was not available for comment, she said.

Nelson, from Hempstead, was a Class 3A All-State selection last spring. He committed to Baylor last fall.
Nelson was among 12 players who would have been on Baylor’s roster for the upcoming season. Several other players have asked for their release, which enables them to talk to other universities about transferring.
Nelson was one of the first players to ask for his release last week. He was among six players to meet with Baylor president Robert Sloan and several other university officials, including former coach Dave Bliss, early last week as the school attempted to explain the situation and the options open to them.
Baylor officials say they will petition the NCAA to allow those who transfer to play immediately.
