Its not as bad here. I live in the DISD District and my nephew is still watching the news to see if its cancelled. Everyone one else has a snowday. News is saying the metroplex will get an inch?? How is it everywhere else??
Heres my car and backyard.

cracks me up how this city shuts down with a light dusting. I know it's because we aren't used to it like they are up north.... but this is really insignificant.
My kids get to stay home from school so they are enjoying it.

Actually U2, snow normally doesn't scare anyone, it is just ice, (which the majority of the north doesn't have to deal with), that gives us trouble. Snow doesn't make you slide into other cars and telephone poles - ice however, very much does. I wish we got 4 to 5 times more snow and no ice. Eh well.

I tried driving a friend to work but Hillcrest has a lot of ice one it. They haven't salted it at all. I was sliding around going 10mph.

Stay home people.
It took me 1.5 hours to get from lewisville to north dallas this morning, and naturally I'm one of the only idiots in the office.

It took me half an hour to get to work in Irving from Lewisville. I AM the only person in the office. No one else here. So..... today is a SYSTEMS DAY now!!!!
I love being able to work without the hassle of having to deal with user problems, but don't tell my boss.... thanks!

Does anyone know what the weather forcast is for Thursday night and Friday morning? I'm planning on driving up from Austin for the Mavs/Lakers game. It's a later game, though, so will probably end at the coldest part of the night.

Cap watering trees in colorado four days ago.
We got 48 inches over 48 hours - so a lil' bit of Texas sleet is no sweat off my tobogan.

I've seen some of those pu**ys from up north and in colorado try and drive on ice. They can't do it any better than we can. When I was in Denver, your average garden variety ice storm shut the city down for two days. Both interstates were closed because of accidents. Perhaps if they would have planned ahead and cancelled things in a more timely manner, they wouldn't have had school buses on the side of the road with children stuck inside for long periods of time because there was ice on the roads and the bus had slid off into a ditch.
And there's a huge difference between the DFW area and many other areas around the country.. It's more spread out here and there's more people that are actually on the roads.. very few people get anywhere via the bus or whatever that rail system is. So, more vehicles traveling further distances equals conditions that aren't safe.
I hear people make stupid remarks all the time concerning Texans not driving when the weather conditions are like this.. But, most of those people don't have the common sense to walk through why it occurs.
And yeah, it might not be treacherous for some people in parts of the Metroplex, but that doesn't mean that other parts aren't hammered. So yeah, if you want to add a significant extra risk to your drive, go for it. But don't criticize many of those who are making a smart decision.

Couldn't agree more Murphy... Like I said, there is a huge difference between one foot of snow and one centimeter of ice - a big difference. Driving in snow is really not dangerous at all, as long as you drive safe and don't get crazy. You can total a vehicle driving 15 on ice. At the end of the day, the way I look at it is simply that it isn't worth the risk. Texas takes great precautions and I think we are wise for doing so.

I can't believe it's snowed twice in Dallas already. I've only been in Boston for one snow day so far...it's a little anticlimatic actually. Heh. If it makes you guys feel better it's 19 degrees right now here & "feels like 6."
Is it sticking enough to play in? Build a snowman for me...

I'd build you a snowman, but I'm at work. It was cute to see the kids making snowmen in their yards and sledding on the hill by the neighborhood school.
Snow is nice, but the ice and crazy drivers make the commute nuts.

Danthe man is absolutely correct. Ice sucks.
Waco was essentially closed this morning and everything is opening two hours late tomorrow. Those are good safe responsible calls. People first.

So I leave for Pennsylvania friday morning...and the weather is following me up there...and I have to walk up a huge hill to get to classes. I'm gonna be on my ass if PA gets the same ice that Dallas got.
